It is an idea to look for outside scholarships any way to lessen the need for student loans. NYU does participate in the FAFSA program which means if you meet the income qualifications that you could receive Pell Grants. In addition, it could qualify you for need based scholarships from NYU's scholarship endowment fund. I will give some free sources to locate money for NYU.

First, complete the FAFSA form because it will qualify you for need based government grants, need based scholarships from the college itself, the federal work study program, and subsidized student loans. It is based on a percentage formula of your parents' income and savings along with your income and savings (counts at a higher rate than your parents' income), and it takes into consideration your family size along with how many family members are in college. This needs to be completed every year until you graduate from college. I recommend completing it in January or early February to receive the most need based scholarships. However, do complete it well before the financial aid deadline for the school itself.

Second, a high school student can locate local scholarships and state scholarships at their high school guidance office. The best chance to receive a scholarship is a local one.

Third, the local public library has a book listing college scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. You enter a profile based on your life, and it will search scholarships in its database for scholarships matching it. There is a college scholarship for just about anything out there including wearing duct tape to the high school prom.

Good luck!

NYU is notoriously known for rarely accepting outside scholarships therefore if you don't get in school scholarships, you are stuck with pretty much the whole bill, which is gonna be a lot, so that is something to seriously think about.

A lot of scholarships and financial aid will probably be necessary. NYU is known for not giving much in terms of aid, so be prepared to pay a great deal of it one your own. Aid and Scholarships are often tough to get for Transfer students as well, so be prepared for that. You'll probably have to pay most of it on your own or from outside scholarships.

Depending on your/your families income, you may qualify for Federal financial aid for school since NYU is an accredited school. The maximum aid is around $4000 for the year. Visit and apply at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ There's no cost to apply.
Also, visit NYU's financial aid office for all the information you can get. Become their friend. They can tell you what scholarships you will qualify to apply for through their school.

The school may also offer financial assistance.
I believe that tuition alone at NYU is around $35,000 yearly.
Good luck to you.
