1) Lack of motivation - They must not want it badly enough, or else they would pursue it!
2) Lack of self-confidence -- Unfortunately many people suffer from a lack of self-confidence. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy: IF you belive you will fail, then ultimately, you will fail! *[BUT the opposite is also true: if you believe you will succeed, you will! It is called having faith in yourself.]
3) Life just gets in the way --- People are just TOO BUSY.... They are so busy with their jobs, taking care of their children, commuting, and all the other day-to-day things... that before they realize it, 10+ years have passed, and they realize that they let their goals slip away from them.

2. lack of planning and foresight
3. they don't actively pursue their goal as hard as their competitors do
4. they sit around and don't even try to pursue their goals, thinking they are not good enough or that fate will somehow intervene
5. lack of means, i.e. money, free time, etc.
these are the reasons I fail, anyway : )

1. They make poor choices. For example, getting pregnant while in high school
2. They lose focus or become distracted. Example, diverting one's attention off one's studies to focus on one's social life.
