Since July I have been told by customer care reps at Talk America/Cavelier Telephone company that they will disconnect my land line per my request. I paid the bill up 'till the expected disconnect date. It is now September...no one is using the line but it is still on and I am still getting telephone bills. How can I make it stop ? I thought it should be easy to get your telephone line disconnected...but I'm actually getting the run around. I don't want the unpaid bills to mess up my credit.

you need to speak with a managment person... if you have stopped using the service.. they will see that there has been no activity on the account since when you stoped using it.. advise then the date and person that you spoke to (you should have that info anytime you call someone) when you first called to disconnect the service.. and if they are unable to assist you in having your service turned off immeadately then you need to contact your local PUC/PSC office and file a complaint..

ALWAYS get and keep a record of NAMES, DATE/TIME, NUMBER CALLED/ EXTENTION.. of everyone you talk to when doing business on the phone... and if need be, record these conversations.. check your local laws for recording conversations.. some states require everyones permission, others like NY only require one person to approve the recording.. but then again, when you call the recorded message says "this call MAY be recorded...." you can take that 2 ways, either they are saying they MAY or may not record your call... or that they are giving you permission that you MAY record the call... either case, they are aware that they may be being recorded, and you are aware.. so it should not be a legal issue..

I would write them informing them you've attempted X number of times to terminate service by phone, and insist they disconnect you and remove all charges after the date you requested the termination. Send certified mail return receipt.

Then keep a copy of the letter and the certified receipt. Then ignore it until the collectors start calling. Tell them it was an error on the phone companies part and give them a copy of the letter and receipt.

Stop paying the bill , and they will disconnect you in a hurry ,and if not , cut the line yourself or pull it out of the socket... You will not mess up your credit if you keep a copy the the messages you have sent requesting a dis- connection .

try this.. call them for a repair and make it something that they have to come out to your place to do it.when they get there tell them you no longer require their service and get it in writing from the repair person that it's disconnected. if you get another bill after that, then send them a letter saying you will no longer pay the bill and send them a copy of the repair persons statement that your service was disconnected.after that it's not your responsibility to figure out what there doing.make sure you do not lose the statement and get a signature from the repair person. good luck!!!
