attempt to refute them in ignorance?

I see religious people who have no understanding of science, whereas, atheists who haven't even read the bible.

This has been stated before, and I'm sure you've heard the phrase:

"Read thine enemy".

The simple fact of the matter is that most people prefer to study what is their particular stance so that they might know it better, rather than waste time studying something they feel no validation for.

The one edge Atheists have is that most are, like myself, former Christians, and well acquainted with such theology.

I agree with Vicarious Cynic. Christians should not be afraid of educating themselves in regard to other philosophies, and certainly should be as open to true science as atheists. Perhaps we could experience more meaningful dialog on this forum. I am up for a good laugh just about anytime, in fact I will set my alarm early rather than risk missing a good time, but mean spirited insults of others adds nothing to this site. I have often wondered if someone stumbled upon this site thinking there might be a professional answer to a spiritual question. How many are giving a decent accounting for how they really believe? I logged on the first time to ask a horse breeding question. BTW, my horse question was met with such foolishness, I wandered into R&S, thinking at least there would be no rudeness! I am glad I did end up here, because in spite of the discord and rudeness I have made many friends from all belief systems. Some folks make the battering worthwhile. Hey, folks like you, Zapp, and Vicarious Cynic!

Walk a mile in their moccasins, or read (with an open and inquiring mind). I've seen the suggestion for an atheist to read "The Heart of Christianity" by Marcus Borg, and for Deists to read "The God Delusion" By Richard Dawkins. That would make for some interesting blogging!

To some degree, we all define ourselves by our opposite. Theists define themselves in opposition to God, and atheists in opposition to theists.

Christians will shout they are on God's side, but they know the Bible says man has been in a struggle with the big guy for millenia.

Atheists will scream they are individuals, while they rat-pack believers.

I started reading the Bible, just to deal with the Fundies that annoyed me.

I do understand science to a certain degree, no I will admit I don't know everything but neither do they. Science is forever changing their are millions of variances that occur. Just when science think they have things figured out another exception will arise. How can anyone have faith in in perfect theories?
