Sounds like your kitty is kneading. It's a sign of happiness and it's also done when they are babies, nursing from their mums. I have heard that when they knead during nursing, it helps the flow of mum's milk come faster. I don't really know tho if that it true.

Almost all cats do this. It is usually a sign that the cat is content. It is phsycological. When a cat is sick or tired they revert to a kitten like state & they make movements, pushing as they would when they were suckling. It is a myth that cats do this because they were weaned too early. Be thankful your kitty doesn't actually suckle your earlobe, chin, blankets, etc. LOL Some do this. :O)

Your cat is just showing contentment, usually this is done when they're happy & ready to lay down for a nap. Cats sleep up to 20 hours per day.

That's the "theory" But I don't really believe it. My grandmother always had her farm cats.... most of them very tame. And all the kittens were left with their mother until she weaned them. I remember many of them would knead when held.

I believe it is a soothing act for them to do it... Not all cats will after they grow up. But there are those that do.

No. Cats will continue to do this act throughout their whole lives when they are happy or content. This is the action that cats do when trying to stimulate milk from their mothers when they are young, and they will continue to associate this action with a feeling of happiness. Dont worry, your pet is just trying to tell you that he is a happy camper!!

My cat does the same thing. I was told once it's called "milk treading" and it's comforting for the cat. I don't think it necessarily means she was taken away from her mother too early.

If by press you mean they use their front paws and repeated pat down an area before they lay down than its normal and not because they were taken from their mum too early. My cat does it every night when she wants to sleep on the couch with me - she will do that to the couch or my legs and its just to "soften" the area they want to lay down on so its more comfortable for them, kinda like if they were in the wild, they wouldn't just lay down, but stamp down the area to flatten things like grass so its more comfortable for them.

this behavior goes back in cat's evolution..They are building a type of "nest"...if you ever watch a dog they also do this..they will kind of walk in circles before they settle or lay down. I have heard it goes back to when domesticated animals were wild and they would pat down tall grass to have a spot to lay. I could have been told wrong but it makes sense to me.

Its normal for a cat to do that. Its a memory imprint of suckling on her Mommy.

Most cats will do that. Its comforting to them. They used to do that do help th e mother generate milk so they could suckle. when they are older, it just relaxes them, don't worry about it
