I live in a gossipy neighborhood with nothing but big-mouthed old ladies (I'm an old lady, but I'm not gossipy). I thought just to mess with their heads, I would buy a bunch of police tape - POLICE LINE - DO NOT CROSS - that yellow tape, and wrap it all over around my front yard and driveway. They'd be calling me like crazy, and I could just torment them and say "Sorry, can't talk about it." But, can I get in trouble from the police for doing this?

mannliz - it's called having fun. No one is harmed. It's something silly to do. "Act your age" is way overrated. I'm nearly 80. What would you like me to do? Sit around in a wheelchair and fester the last few years of my life? I don't have a whole lotta years left, hon. You will learn that "acting your age" is really bad way to go through life - it's too short! Peace to all the great, fun answers who saw the humor in this!

I'm pretty sure not...i mean, they might tell you to take it down, but you can always cover your butt and call your local cop shop and ask about the consequences of the prank. HAVE FUN!!

LMAO That is an awesome prank. I'm pretty sure that you can't get into trouble if you can buy it, but if the police should stop by just tell them it's Halloween decorations. Besides halloween is only a month away.

Many years ago my partner and I "police taped" our Patrol Sargent's front yard and left a body bag with a store dummy in it, in the yard. Prank even made the paper! Sarge was pissed! 'Course, we never admitted our involvement. . .

don't buy police tape - buy the fake (but convincing) stuff that is sold at spencer gifts and spirit halloween shops.

as long as it's not real, i don't see how any harm can come of it - you could always just say you were getting into the spirit of halloween...

No, you can't get into trouble for it. Just don't block any pedestrian sidewalks or roadways and let the hillarity insue!

At least in NY, there's no crime against it, as long as it's your property.
