It sounds like Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (basically a bladder infection). Not necessarily serious, but he does need to go to the vet. It is probably hurting him to urinate; which is why he avoided the litterbox, to him the box equals pain.
In order to treat effectively, the cause must be determined, and only a vet can do this. Neutered males are notoriously susceptible to getting crystals in the urine, which can cause a blockage; so your vet should look at this possibility. As long as he is still passing urine there is no urgency; but if he stops, take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Without treatment, a full blockage can become fatal quite rapidly.
As for backing into cats, they are quite resilient; I've actually stepped on some of mine accidentally and they have suffered no ill effects.
Shoot, meant to give you a link and forgot. :) There are tons of sites out there about FLUTD; here are a few for ya.

Could be any number of reasons. Hopefully it is just a urinary infection, or stone, which can be cured by antibiotics, whatever. However it is still painful. And if he reaches a point where he can't pee because his tube becomes blocked, he will die within a matter of hours.
So, let's use some common sense here. If you were peeing blood, would you stop and ask on Yahoo, "Do you think it could be something serious?" or would you go "Oh my God!, I'm peeing blood!, and head straight to the doctor?"
A cat will generally not pee on somebody's bed, or anywhere else, unless it's trying to get your attention to tell you something's wrong; he can't talk to you. And he's following you around. How many clues do you need?

Whether you have much money or not he has to go to a vet. You would go to a doctor if you were peeing blood right? He will only get worse until he has the correct diagnosis and treatment. In the end he may die in terrible pain. That's not the way for any animal to go. Honestly I am not being mean, but it is mean and crule to let him suffer. Please take him to the vet. if you have been working with the same vet for a while he may well let you do a payment plan. If not put it on a credit card or borrow the money. As a last result surrender him to a no kill shelter. Whatever you have to do you can;t just leave him this way. Good luck. I know you can get this sorted.

I never heard of anything like that, but my guess would be that your cats has a urinary tract infection. I know when humans have uti's, sometimes they pee out blood. I know that don't mean since the cat is peeing out blood, that it has a uti but I'm guessing that could be the problem.

I really do think its crystals in the cats bladder. Most common in male cats too. He can't pass his urine because of the crystallization in his bladder. Please, take him for a check up as this can be very serious if left unattended.
I once had a male cat that this happened too. The vet had to catheterize him to empty his bladder. He also told me not to give my cat any food that had a high ash content in it. That was causing him to get blocked like that. He also told me to give my cat spaghetti sauce. The acid in the sauce would keep the bladder from blocking again. Luckily for me my cat liked spaghetti sauce and it did work for him too.

YES!! It is serious. For male cats any possible urinary infection is serious because their penis gets smaller as you go to the end of it and if the infection causes any crystals they can get caught in the end of the penis not allowing the cat to urinate. If he can't urinate, he will strain and strain and the urine will continue to back up. I have seen cats die because clients thought their cat was constipated because they were straining but they were trying to urinate. PLEASE TAKE YOUR CAT TO THE VET ASAP!!

It's probably just an infection, but you do need to take him to the vet to get medication.

yes soemthing is wrong. urine and blood are two totally different sections (if you will) of the body. If urine and blood are combined in human or animal something is defiantly wrong. Take him to the vet.
