i've seen some blenders with good reviews that only have 2 speeds. Shouldn't they have more than 2? I can definitely see how you'd only need 2 i suppose.

my blender has either 10 or 12, plus a pulse. I typically only use one or two of the speeds though.

My blender has 7 settings with 2 different speeds each. So I guess you can say it has 14 speeds. When I use it, I usually just leave it on setting 7 on low, which is around medium speed.

Mine has 10 speeds. But then it can make flour from whole grians, liquify eggs with their shell, and grind ice cubes.
