So I have had horrible mood swings for the past few weeks. I go from being extremly happy to depressed(crying). And for no reason I dont know what to expect when I go to the doctor. What could I have?

Hi hon.. i'm glad you are going to the doctor....

Leave it to the doctor to give a diagnosis... sometimes it takes a few visits for them to figure it out anyway.... and in my opinion treating the SYMPTOMS is what needs to be done.

Just because someone is labeled with an illness, say bipolar disorder, it doesn't mean you are going to have all of the same symptoms as someone else.

take care and everything will be ok!! hugs

Your doctor will probably give you a physical check up just to make sure your symptoms don't have an underlying physical basis like a thyroid disorder and if he doesn't find one, give you a psychiatric evaluation and maybe prescribe a regime of therapy and medication.

Its really important not be discouraged if the first meds don't work as antidepressants or mood stabilisers at once cos it takes awhile to kick in and then again, the first ones may not even work and you'll need a couple of trys. And when you feel well, DON"T stop taking them...

Its really important that with your mood swings you get good sleep, eat well and exercise as well avoiding too many stressful situations. Good luck.

There could be many things that can cause mood swings. You doctor will likely test your blood and try to rule out any physical issues. Hormones is possible. Don't worry, the doctor will help you. The most important think is to see the doctor and let he or she determine the cause. Good luck and take care.
