it would not be a bad idea to take chemistry and physics so that you can understand the how's and why's of cooking... home ec will lay down some solid basics of cooking (as well as other practical living skills)...

check you local community college and see if they have a culinary dept... they may offer some 1 day sessions on various skills (also, these can be a GREAT head start to going the the larger and more well known culinary institutes)... as silly as it seems, check out your local crafts stores (our michael's does occasional cake decorating classes at a couple of different levels)... also start looking into nutrution... and start noticing what you like about the food that you eat when you go out and what you might want to do differently... it helps you get a jump start on developing a "food philosophy"...

oh yeah... watch the food channel and take notes... it's no degree, but it is free lessons... (information, instructions and techniques)

Unfortunately, you're somewhat young to actually become a chef. It takes years of experience. The good news is that you can probably take a home economics course in junior high and learn how to cook/bake. If you like home ec. then when you graduate high school, I suggest that you apply to a culinary school in your state. I'm pretty sure your guidance counselor has a listing of schools. Good Luck !!!

Study some recipes and practice at home. After graduating high school you can go to cooking college. Then you can enter cooking competitions and of course get a job in a fancy restaurant as a chef or start your own cooking show.

You can even make cooking videos for youtube and get famous.

First and foremost stay in school and graduate. Get your education in general first. You can then go to a Culinary school and get "formal" training. Or you can get a job in a restaurant and get trained by doing the "hidden" jobs. Taking out the trash..cleaning the grease traps etc..waiting tables. You might get lucky and have a chef that takes a liking to you and teaches you the fine art of flipping eggs and cooking hash browns..My advice...go to school.

Besides Home Economics courses that you might be able to take this year (next semester), maybe you have a vocational high school in your area that offers Culinary Arts programs.
