For some reason, if you become too rational people think you've gone off the deep end; especially when it comes to religion. Why???

I don't know about religion (because the usual charge is that religious people are not rational) , but I do think that someone can be over rational.

Did you ever see the movie, "The Princess Bride" ?

There was a crook who was a leader of two other crooks, bandits, who were suppose to kidnap the bride to be.

He would rationalize things to the Nth degree. His logic would make sense when it came time to drink from the cup. He philosophized and rationalized which cup the man in black poisoned in a contest of wits.

Yet he still didn't get it right, because he didn't have enough information to make the right choice.

I think that he was being too rational.

(Sorry if you didn't see the movie and I spoiled it for you, but see it anyway. The movie is one of the best ever.)

You know, before I even read the details of your question the first thing I thaught of was religion. There's nothing wrong with being rational, because to be rational would be to know when not to be rational. For example, a person may have a choice to make but if there is no real difference between the choices then it would not be unrational to choose by impulse or whatever.

Lifetimes are spent in false religions.

Don't know where you heard or assume this. Most religions are "irrational" as just about all of them always shun having to prove what they believe in. Much like people who are insane, the harder you try to stipulate reality to these persons the more beligerant they become, some even to the point of violent and murderous behaviors.

"Rational" only works in religion when nothing is questioned.

To rational as in the sense to rationalize.

Because spirituality is not Rational. It never will be. Rationality is a product of intelect and intelect is a product of ego. Spirituality has to incorporate some emotion or it is nothing but intelect.

Rationality and religion mixes as well as oil and water.

I really don't know. It reminds me of the phrase, "but that would make too much sense."
