are new age hippies? I live in GAP jeans and flip flops. I drive an SUV with my three kids out in the suburbs and my trad isn't a "love all" type thing. I admit I bust out laughing when I see that all pagans are new age hippies.....

LMAO! I couldn't agree more! Most people down here in backwoods Texas think that we are hippies, druggies, possessed by the devil or all three at the same time! :) I love to tell the locals that i am pagan and can do magick, see auras, harness energy with my mind and body. They act like I'm a leper sometimes. I think I've been told I'm going to "hell" more than anybody in this county. So I tell them jokingly that i already have a seat saved! ;) Sooo much fun to see the look on their faces!!! By the way no offense to Christians I am glad that your spiritual path works for you all. Bright Blessings to you and yours!! Pagan Dad.

Oh yeah, man... like, we're all into that Make Peace not War deal, man... (said in a slow, slurring tone)....

I have seen this a lot and I used to wonder where they get it from till I looked around and saw how many we do have that talk about how everything is wonderful, nothing is bad or wrong... I was even once told, by a High Priestess no less, that there was no such thing as Evil. I couldn't believe it... But we have so many "White Lighters" now that are striving so hard to make the words Pagan and Witch acceptable to "outsiders" that they are really looking silly and giving everyone the impression we're all like that.

I guess we need to get the Goths and the White Lighters together for a weekend "retreat", but I would be afraid the Goths would hurt the WL's. *wink*

I suppose that I'm somewhat of a hippie, but I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I wear Birkenstock's, and I've even got my patchwork quilt pants.

Still, I'm also a minister and a business professional. You're as likely to catch me in Jeans and a collared shirt as you are my hippie-chick outfits.

I drive as little as possible, and most of my miles are on my bicycle. I suppose that makes me a bit of an environmentalist. I enjoy hiking and out-doors activities. I used to drink and do drugs, but don't now. I don't find it necessary.

Do crystals make a hippie? Maybe partly, but I think if you studied the hippie culture of the 60's and 70's, you would find that a great deal of it was about the drugs. Social awareness and an anti-war stance were prevalent in those years, but that wasn't limited to the hippies.

You mean I have to give up my small car because I'm FAT? I was born Pagan and I grew up in the 60's. I was a hairdresser for 35 years and bought a new car every two years. They were economic and yes I am heavy into ecology... So what's the point? Oh hippies!

The time line goes like this. Hippies, yippies, yuppies, yummies, yuckies and GenX!!! So what's the point again?

Stereotyping in a surround sound world...

I'm the only me there is and unless you know me you don't know anything about me. So why guess. And who says all people think?

I live in a small town and I have not noticed this. But I have noticed it to be a phase some teenagers go through. We have a Wicca store here and they have celebrations on the full moon. Anyone is invited and I have been a few times.I can see that some of these people seem to be pot smokers, maybe that is why people think they are hippies.

Heck even most Wiccans now a days aren't "New Age Hippies" and Wicca was the religion of the majority of Hippies! LOL

I'm a professional in the semiconductor industry and a Mom of two. I have an MBA and drive a red Mustang. Very few people know I"m pagan.

I know far too many pagans to think that they are all new age hippies. Some are, but I know more than a few who are right wing conservative gun nuts too.

If you count Asatru/Forn sidr as pagan, I'm slightly more right-wing than Atilla the Hun. I'm a gun nut (not to mention all the swords, spears, knives, bows and arrows). I like hunting and fishing, and I like thrash metal music.
