What are currently the terrorists' weapons of choice? In the past terrorsist were usually using AK 47. WHy?

But in Iraq they use IED (Imprivised Explosive Device)..i.e. Road side bombs ....because they keep away from harm.

Well yes, terror and propganda are the terrorists greatest 'tools.' The AK-47 was and still is very popular because it is easily obtained and is extremely durable. Terrorists weapons? Really much anything that, well, inflicts terror and inflicts casualties. For instance Iraq...terrorists/insurgents there are improving IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices, ie Roadside bombs) all the time. They are the number one killer of US Forces in Iraq. Insurgents in Iraq are also using AK-47s, Dragunov sniper rifles, Suicide belts (worn by a person), Suicide truck bombs, Mortars and plenty of others. Suicide bombings are effective because they inflict mass terror and cause mass casualties. But outside of Iraq terrorists use everything from planes (9/11) to suicide boats (USS Cole) in Yemen to truck bombs against the Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and plenty other methods. The goal of terrorism is to cause casualties but even more so inflict terror and cause panic. So they could really use anything.

Their weapon of choice is....
Terror.
They use whatever they can easily lay their hands on to create an atmosphere of fear... bombs, guns, chemicals, planes... you name it.
The AK-47 is the most available small arm in the middle east to get their hands on. They aren't concerned with pinpoint accuracy, they have many numbers of followers willing to throw themselves at the situation with any weapon they are handed.

I like what David said, propaganda. Weapon of choice? In the AK series, Improvised explosives, Rocket propelled gernades (RPG).

Your assertion about the AK47 is incorrect.
In the days when the great american public where supporting the terror campaign of the IRA against the soldiers, police and civilians in Great Britain and Ireland the weapon of choice was the american Armalite rifle.
