I haven't been since I was in primary school, but I really want to get shorter cut, but at the same time something modern and a bit funky.

Last time I had my hair cut short was when my Mum did it... I ended up looking like I was about to head to the Army, hated it. She's not the best at hairdressing lol but nor should she be. I wear my hair tied back pretty much all the time, my ex gf used to cut it for me.

What should I do, where should I go? Barber or any place I can find?

I'm male BTW, 21

Just do it the first time & you will loose the fear from then on! Nothing to be afraid of! If it would make you feel better go to a woman, they will make you feel at home! Just go to a reputable beautician or barber and tell them what you want, they have hundreds of books with pictures to show the hairdresser. Ask friends or family who they recommend. The mall has Mastercuts or Regis they are pretty good a money back guarantee. You will join the other hundreds of thousands of people who go! Besides they have to make a living and feed there family's too . You will be doing a good thing! Remember it will always grow back, if you don't like it well in a couple weeks time it will be long and shabby again, but I'll bet you will feel better and look better with a good cut!!!!!!!

I quit getting my haircut for about ten years because I never got what I wanted and it always looked awful. I figured if it was going to look bad it might as well be free and so I cut it myself. I finally tired of how I looked in pictures and braved a hair cuttery in the mall. She made me look like an 80's rock star - don't go to the mall. I tried again elsewhere and finally got what I wanted. Now I always ask for that same person to cut my hair. When it comes to haircuts, you get what you pay for. Find a nice salon if you want funky, barbers tend to be straightforward traditional.

you dread the hairdresser because you get under that cape and have to hold still and you feel small and at the mercy of the tall person with the sharp instruments.
Find somebody who you feel comfortable with, and make sure they talk, listen, and understand what you want before they ever pick up any sharp instruments. If they start to tell you how they think it should be........ get up from the chair and leave before they even take a comb to it.
It's your hair, YOU are in control.

We all hate the cackling old hens that gossip in the hairdresser's place. Just something you gotta do here and there.

id find an attractive young lady from the local newspaper who did such a thing from a home or office and attempt to enjoy myself with fresh company in a non threatening semi public situation and see what happens.
