My brother and I have just went through MEPS and we have chosen to go infantry(11B). (can you believe we actually had to beg to get infantry? I thought we were in dire need of more infantry..). I was wondering if anyone knew how soon we would deploy for war once our OSUT is over with.. We are kinda blood thirsty if you know what I mean, we strongly disagree with what those bastards do over there and we want a shot at them asap. Is there any way to request to deploy right after OSUT?

believe it or not.. I know alot about why we are in iraq right now..Im not saying I want to go now or anything.. I just enlisted ha. I know I will be trained very well before I go. 2 buddies of mine have already been 2 iraq... only one came back alive. Thats also why I want to go soon.. revenge is not my only reason though. Im wanting to help in any way I can, dont get me wrong.. Im not going to run up in the middle of fallujah rambo style or anything LOL... Im pretty smart when it comes to tight situations.. I dont get nurvous.. and I fallow orders very well..I think my brother and I will be a very big asset over in Iraq and we want to be a part of what is going on over there..

As an ex infantry officer, I'd suggest you re-think your concept of the military.

While it's true that infantry is the bottom line, since after the air force and artillery are called to subdue, somebody has to go in and count bodies and take on whatever's left in close combat, infantry needs those other skills.

If you qualify for a job like Intelligence, or artillery, or whatever, give it thought before rejecting it. There are no unimportant jobs in the military.

Congress does those.

Oh, and trust me.... you'll get over being bloodthirsty in training. The military is the "controlled application of violence".

No place for bloodthirsty in "controlled".

Though it is commendable that you sign up knowing you will deploy to war, you must also stray from the mind-frame you're just going there to be out for blood. That's not what this war is about. We're trying to stop the terrorism and get their country stable enough to allow their government to work. We're building schools and though there are deaths that's not our main purpose there.

As far as when you'll deploy ( you will don't worry - all depends on the unit you end up with)

If you go at war with the that mind-frame (in anger and out for blood) that is how you'll end up dead yourself.
I've seen it.

EDIT:
In addition, you can volunteer to deploy and become attached to a PROFIS slot. If the unit you become assigned to following training just got back or has no plans to deploy right away, then you can still try and go.
When I deployed I didn't deploy with the unit I was assigned with. A soldier nurse had to go home for some reason or another after getting over there and so they called "non-deploying units" for relief. I was volun-told to go so off I went. I left two weeks later for a week of train-up and that was it.

When you get to your new unit. Talk to your company commander about your interest in deploying right away - he may think you're crazy because it's really not fun at all.

And who knows, after your training you may have a different opinion about deployments. You well and know that it's dangerous over there so yes, don't go there Rambo style. Saw way too many soldiers come in to the support hospital really messed up for not having their head in the battle and just fighting with their heart. We're in a much smarter war which is why we're are stastically losing far less troops than in previous wars. Fight with your head and not with your heart or you'll find yourself in a world of trouble.

Wow, you're leaving pretty soon! Good luck... where are you training?

There really isn't a "schedule", it just depends on where you get stationed. If you get stationed somewhere where your unit is getting ready for it's deployment rotation, then you'll go. If not, then you probably won't. More likely than not you'll go, but my husbands recruiter is Airborne infantry, and he's been wanting to go since he enlisted, and he's about to be promoted to E-6 and hasn't gone yet!! I've never really heard of that happening often, but, just to let you know that it's really like a game of roulette.

Whatever happens though, KEEP YOURSELVES AS SAFE AS YOU CAN, and don't go too crazy with wanting to kill people, haha.

HOOAH!

YOU might not be cut for the Infantry and end up being a REMF!
