Go on a day and at a time that isn't going to be popular. Unfortunately I think the last Saturday of the month is not going to be a good time for avoiding crowds. Maybe if you get there right when it opens you'll be OK if other people don't want to get up so early.

You need to get an online appointment before hand if you want to avoid getting trapped in a long line at the DMV.
Depending on which state u r in go to ur dmv website and do it:
Few examples:
Florida: http://oasis.hsmv.state.fl.us/
Virginia : www.dmvNOW.com
California: https://mv.dmv.ca.gov/foAppt2/startOfficeVisit.do
Search for your state name + dmv online appointment in google

Be there at least 1/2 hour earlier than it opens.
Saturday has got to be the worst day of the week to go.
Call the DMV and ask them when there slowest time and day of the week is.

Get there before it opens so you can be one of the first in line. The shorter the line for you to wait in, the less time you'll spend there.

If you go during a week day it will be less busy. Otherwise suck it up Rockie and get used to it. It will get you ready for all that waiting that you will be doing in traffic once you get your license.

You can't. DMV employees in every state get raises based on how creatively they can extend the lines.
