My earlier question about bi polar disorder was answered by many. Maybe you know where I can start for help on this issue.

Look up your county mental health center on the internet or phone book. Every county I've lived in has had one. They will often waive all fees (sometimes you have to make a co-payment of something like $10.) They are a place to start but most of these places work on very limited budgets.

Where I go, all I get is pills. They have one counselor, a social worker for adults and I didn't get on with her. I needed a real psychologist.

You can also get case management and perhaps medicaid which will pay for most of your prescriptions if you need any as well as your appointments. The care is not great, but it is cheap. Having a case manager is always a good idea. They can help you with any number of things or at least give you an idea of your options. They will help you fill out any forms you need to do.

Good luck.

I am not sure where you are located, but I know when my husband finally made the choice to start getting mentally healthy we knew he had to talk to someone. Our family doctor was able to refer him to a local mental health clinic (usually located in or near a walk-in clinic) in our city. My suggestion is to just ask your doctor for a referral to a free clinic to speak with a counselor/psychologist/psychiatrist, whichever you would prefer. They are around and available, but if you don't have a doctor's referral, you will have to pay... but if you can't get a referral from your doctor, find a clinic yourself and make an appointment. The staff want to see you progress positively, so make sure they know that finances are a concern and they may be able to find a way to subsidize your treatment... but get the treatment. They have helped my husband immensely, and just knowing that he has a condition that caused him to behave irrationally and outside the realm of what was considered "normal" made dealing with and forgiving much easier. It also helps to make sure your friends and family know that you are seeking help. There is a negative stigma associated with bipolar disorder, so my husband refers to everything as a 'chemical imbalance'. Hope this helps, and good luck. Hopefully things will work out.

Hi !

If you have a low or limited income, you could check to see if your county offers a mental health program. Check the county directory or call the health department for information.

Otherwise, sometimes you can check with business offices at mental health clinics. Ask if they apply for grants or financial aid for clients who haven't many resources to pay. Sometimes they do this.

I hope you get the help you need.

Look in your phone book in the city/county government section and see if there's a community mental health center. They usually charge you based on your income.

Check with the county mental health. They usually have a sliding scale based on your income.

A TRUE FRIEND. All a shrink is gonna do is listen to your problems, maybe, and then give advice on what he "thinks" you should do to improve your situation. A true friend who knows you better than a shrink ever could can not only lend an ear, but also will have a better idea of what would be best for you than a total stranger.

Depends on your area but most major cities have mental health centers at low or no cost. Try searching online for your area.

You could go to emerge and speak to a doctor there and you wont half to pay for it and if you live in Canada like me you get your doctor to refer you to one and its free (if you go to emerge pick me up a pair of pj bottoms)
