Ritalin and Valium should not decrease the efficacy of Tramadol for pain control. Tramadol is a very mild pain reliever. It all depends what kind of pain you are suffering. Many primary care doctors are extremely hesitant to start someone on opiates - - narcotics such as codeine or hydrocodone which would work better - BUT - carry the risk of physical and psychological dependency. If the problem causing your pain is a long term disorder, your doctor will be even more hesitant to prescribe effective narcotics.
Why? - 1. Because doctors are monitored for their prescribing habits. If they prescribe narcotics too frequently, they could be in serious trouble - trouble threatening their license to practice. 2. Because quite a few people seek narcotics when they do not truly have pain. Unfortunately, that ruins it for people who are suffering with real pain. Pain cannot be proven. There is no test to document that someone is really in pain. Doctors have to take the patient's word for it. Some people lie to get narcotics.
In cases of advanced terminal diseases such as cancer, the indications for narcotic prescribing are much more relaxed in this (American) society. I was a cancer specialist, so I was not hassled by prescription police like general physicians.
This is not the answer you would like. Sorry. If you have a doctor who really knows you well and trusts you, he or she may be more willing to take your word for the amount of pain you have and give you the stronger prescription. Failing that, you might be able to get more pain control be adding a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent such as Ibuprofen to your pain control regimen.

To be entirely honest, I'm not sure if Tramadol works for migraines. I found this by looking for an answer. What I am sure of, though, is that you've been given some misinformation . Tramadol is NOT related to Toradol. Toradol (Ketorolac) is an NSAID, like Ibuprofen. It's non-narcotic. Tramadol, however, is NOT an NSAID. Tramadol IS narcotic. It's an opioid. Apparently, it's got a far lower potential for dependence (physical, at least) but that doesn't change the fact it's still narcotic. So, just to be clear again, Tramadol is NOT related to Toradol and IS narcotic. Anyway. good luck with finding an answer!

Was your physician aware that you're on these other medications?...especially since they are both controlled substances (so is the Tramadol [Ultracet]). I'm not sure what the interactions would be, but you may need to contact a local pharmacist and see what they say. Next step would be following up with your physician again and insist that it's not helping the pain subside.
