No the .22 LR is too small. The only other round that will fit the chamber is .22 WRF, although it is shorter and may be impossible to find. If you had some and fired them in your magnum, it would lead up the forward part of your chamber, due to the shorter length.
Add: CCI and Winchester and probably others have revived the .22 WRF and when you do your research you will find, it does fit, although it is short.
The .22 WRF is the parent case for the .22 WMR.

A .22 WMR is longer than a .22 LR, so it's not advisable. The bullet is the same size, but the casing is different, which makes it a very poor idea.

Yes, a .22 LR will fit in a .22 WMR but it is NOT chambered for the WMR. It might even fire but it won't cycle and the casing may even split giving you even more problems.
Just use the appropriate ammo in the the gun it was designated for.
Best.

Most times you're right ammo sales are final but if it was recent and you still have the receipt you could try and plead your case to the manager. This of course fully depends on whether or not the packaging is in it's original condition. Oh and I know you don't mean anything by it but using the word "retarded" to mean stupid or dumb is well aaaa.... you get the idea choose your words better to express yourself with out insulting others who aren't as fortunate as you. Watch out for wikipedia because I can go on there right now and say that your left nostril the perfect size to chamber and shoot a 9mm and they will print it like it was the gospel truth. Well stated! I knew you had no evil intent you sound like you got it together. Save those rounds if you can't return them and take them with you to the next gun show and try and trade em for something you can use.

You may be able to chamber the round, but if it is fired, you may have a .22 LR casing inside the barrel, and the casing may NOT be able to be removed without irrepairable damage. Do the smart thing, USE PROPER AMMO IN THE GUN.

Before I knew any better... I was eight, my Grandpa did it all the time. It will work. But it is not recommended. It fits, It has less pressure than the .22mag and the only real difference is that the rifling is a bit further ahead of the bullet than the standard Winchester Magnum Round. We never had any problems with it and it was a Winchester lever action .22mag that still sees plenty of use today by my cousin.
