What is a Yam?

Yams contain less sugar and are usually used as a starch while sweet potatoes are sweeter and are usually what are used in the United States by most people....Here in Louisiana we have sweet potatoes! a yam is similar in taste to a sweet potato...and the two are being confused a lot. A yam is usually narrow and yellowish and a sweet potato is more bulgy with a red skin color. There are a lot of other varieties..

YAM IS NOT!!!!!!! SWEET POTATO!!! YES IT IS similar BUT THEY'RE NOT!!! THE SAME THIG I ATE ONE UP TO TODAY WITH SOME BUTTER a yam is ntoa sweet potato the taste is completely different it dosen not even look like a sweet potatoto

a yam is the same as a sweet potato. its just the way that its cooked that people call it yams.

its like a potato but larger and sweet. they are used in baking a lot a bit like ube. and are very popular at thanksgiving in the USA(candied yams!!)yummy :).

A orange skinny weird shape potato that you can make pies out of or you can eat it with brown sugar butter just as is basically it has a lot of vitamins good for the soul... boil it bake it grill just do it.
