Wanderkind has, as usual, given a brilliant and accurate answer.
To those people who keep posting one line opinions such as 'the zionists stole the land from the Palestinians' - your argument would be more credible if instead of just regurgitating propoganda, you actually post some facts in support of your assertions. Note that this is what Wanderkind has done.
Yes, that's right: facts! Historical, objective, verifiable facts.
I am always happy to have a debate, discussion or even argument about the Middle East problems, but only if both people involved are debating from a rational and factual basis.
You do ask an interesting question about Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries' support for Palestinians. Perhaps you'll post this also in the other forums for these countries? I'd be keen to read the answers.
I don't think anyone disagrees that the Palestinians have had a terrible time of it. It's just that you can't keep blaming Israel for everything: the facts simply don't support this assertion.

"The first historical mention of the word "Israel" comes from the Merneptah Stele of Ancient Egypt (dated the late 13th century BC), although experts have not been able to agree on whether the term was being used to refer to a people or a homeland.[18]"
I know that the main catalizator of the the renewed formation of Israel is WW2 - when Jews realized they had no country which excepted them. then the UN decided that it was in the best interest of the world to let Israel be the one which absorbs the jews.
recent facts of Israel 2006:
Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the whole world.
Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people - as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.
In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the US (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).
Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the US.
Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies
Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK
With an aerial arsenal of over 250 F-16s, Israel has the largest fleet of the aircraft outside of the US.
Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined.
Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
yeah you know I have another 50 pages that was only half of page one,,.... it's all true facts.
anyways Israel as you can see is very productive and important and it's in the worlds best interest to let it continue to donate and contribute to the world economy and protection and security.
Why don't saudies help their fellow muslims, I'll get back to you on that, I think it's because they don't want to be responsible for them I'll get back to you on that, and BTW Israel provided money to the Palestinians each year, so if any country did care for them it was Israel, and also weapons so they can form a police and protect their own from terrorist groups but guess what the terrorists took the guns and used them torwards israel. although today the new leadership in the west bank has been successful with their police and leadership and I am hopeful.

There is state called Israel. It is in the Middle East which is on the Asian continent. Israel is near Lebanon, Jordan, SYria, and Egypt. The land is Israel, so why should we put a cover over our eyes and be so blind to what is in front of our faces? The Saudi leaders don't help Palestinians (who are Arab Muslims living in Israel) so I wouldn't expect them to help Jews.

Well the quote was "israel should be wiped from the pages of time" not the one you gave it is a mis translation of a persion idiom.
Now Israel has a right to exist as does Palestine, I beleive both countries have a right to exist as they where conceived by the UN, no more no less.
Now in the Arab world beleive it or not there is a lot of hatred for palestinians and they are treated like shet, for along time they where called the arabs of Israel by there brotheren.
If you want to find out more about discrimation towards palestinians by other Arabs look for hopelesszoos profilfe she knows first hand she worked in a refugee camp in lebanon for two years I think it was and she can testify to what i say.

Israel has a right to exist - I have a better question - does Iran have a right to exist - after all until 1921 the country was called Persia - if we believe the arguments of many the only thing that is important is the name to show ownership.

Obviously there IS an Israel.
Anyone delusional enough to deny the existence of a nation that has been going strong for 60 years is in need of psychiatric help.
I think that whoever says things like "Israel should be wiped off the map" is a supporter of genocide, because the only way to get rid of Israel is mass murder.
Israel has a right to the land, by any criteria you care to use. The Jews have an ancient historical, religious and cultural tie to the land of Israel. Jews have always prayed in the direction of Jerusalem. Hundreds of Jewish prayers refer to Israel and Jerusalem. Our religion and religious stories are tied to the land, not unlike Native Americans.
Jews have lived in Israel continuously for over 3000 years (that can be documented archeologically), although they were not always the dominant people.
The Jews were the only people to have an independent nation in Israel.
In modern times, Jews returned to Israel because that is where their history lay. You could not create a Jewish state in Uganda, or Germany, or in the US, as various people have suggested, because Jews have no interest in going to a place which holds no historical/religious ties.
Much of the land settled in the late 19th and early twentieth centuries was purchased from Arab landowners--completely legal. (Modern Jewish immigration began in the 1880s, not 1928, as Spectre claims. This is quite well documented.) Locals were not displaced. There was actually an influx of Arabs due to the jobs created by Jewish settlement. The Arabs, however, did not like rising Jewish influence, and began attacking Jewish settlements early on.
In 1947, after the UN voted to partition Mandatory Palestine into Jewish and Arab states, the Palestinian Arabs again attacked Jewish settlements, and in 1948, 5 Arab armies attacked (all the neighbors and Iraq, plus token forces from other Arab countries). Contrary to Spectre's mendacious claims, it is quite well documented that it was the Arabs who began the fighting. The Arabs lost, and because they were the ones who attacked, Israel retained the territory gained in the 1948 war.
The Jews have suffered discrimination under both Christians and Muslims, not only during the Holocaust, but over hundreds of years. Yet we have maintained our identity, despite attempts to convert or kill us. There are fewer ethnic groups more deserving of an independent state.
The Jews have built a strong, vibrant, creative, productive democratic state in Israel. They have earned the right to a nation by their achievements.
About half of today's Israeli Jews come from Europe, but from Arab/Muslim nations, so if the Jews are to "go back where they came from," then a large number of Jews would have to go back to Muslim nations. If Arab propaganda is any indication, they would be despised and possibly murdered. And why would Jews want to be second class citizens in an Arab country when they now live in a democracy that grants free speech, freedom of religion, and equal rights under the law?
Contrary to popular opinion, the US government did not provide a much support for Israel (aside from supporting Partition in 1947) until after 1967. Since then, America's support has been based on multiple factors, including Cold War alliances (Arab nations backed the Soviets and sought their support even before the US backed Israel), the fact that Israel is a democracy, and the fact that Israel provides the US with high quality intelligence. The US investment in Israel has been repaid with loyalty, friendship, and good military information. US investment in Arab countries doesn't appear to have yielded much at all.
Why don't the Arabs help the Palestinians? Excellent question. I'd love to hear some Arabs answer it. Throughout the past 60 years the Arabs have kept the Palestinians in refugee camps as cannon fodder and as a festering sore to use against Israel. They have denied them citizenship (except Jordan) and done nothing to improve their lives. They raise money to send the Palestinians to war, but not to university. They don't provide money to build, only to destroy.
By perpetuating this endless hostility, Arabs have harmed themselves more than they've hurt Israel. It's long past time for the Arabs to accept Israel, resettle the Palestinians in their own lands, and move on.
