The apostles were everyday, uneducated by our standards, except Paul. God can uses any of us. If He can use me, He sure can use anyone. I am not that bright, I love Jesus though and I think that all that matters if we yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit. He can give us wisdom and knowledge and teach us His ways. We do not have to be handsome or beautiful, even though I think we feel this way because of magazines and TV. Some of the strangest looking and sounding individuals are used by God, notice John the Baptist.

They were Tax collector, fishermen, tradesmen, and they failed Jewish school but they gave up everything they had to follow Christ. They were weak doubters and sinners but they gave over their lives to Christ, they knew he was God and they knew that it would be a good idea to come when he told them to follow him. They gave their lives fro preaching the gospels and literally lost everything because of their faith. The apostles showed that a man can transform from a doubting sinner to an on fire for God forgiven believer.

My opinion that they were hard working honest men for their times. My favorite was called later " Saul of Taurus/Paul" the apostle of the gentiles, he was the most traveled/boldest & hard working apostle - very well schooled by the finest of that day!

They were men who believed God to the utmost, and weren't concerned about popular opinion. At one point, Paul said that everyone left him, but he knew that Jesus was with him always, and he continued.

Apparently, they were apostolic types.

The fact they did what they did can be seen as lunacy, fervor, belief (whether guided or misguided) or a combination of those.

Their actions would certainly seem to speak of a non-rationalistic approach to life.
