... the remaining Aetheistic 8-10% believe they alone are the enlightened keepers of truth and the rest of the world and vast majority of people in it are just sadly deluded? If their beliefs really made so much sense, wouldn't more people subscribe to them?
(There are a number of surveys and studies on this topic. All of them put the number of "religious people" - qualified only in the since that they answered in the affirmative when asked if they believed in God or other supreme being/power - in the world at just above or just below 90%, for those who wish to question my statistics.)

None of you are answering the question. Which was why are you the sole keepers of the truth? Why are religious people deluded and why have we been so through the ENTIRE history of Humanity?

Several decades ago, 90 per cent of white people in America felt black people were inferior, should sit in the back of the bus could not intermarry etc
I don't think your 90 per cent argument is a good one

I'll question where you get your statistics from. The CIA factbook places Christians at about 1/3 or the world popultion, about 1/6 Muslim and a little less as Hindu.
The rest believes in their respective gods with about 10% atheist.
But, let's with your logic, in the 1300's the majority believed that the world was flat, did that make it a fact? Before then people believed that the sun went around the earth, it seemed reasonable and it was unthinkable/crasy to think otherwise.

David,
I am a firm believer in the fact that, if Christianity causes you to love your fellow man, atheism causes me to love my fellow man, and Islam causes the muslim to love his fellow man, then we ALL have the "truth".
That being said, sheer numbers do not make something factual. Lets go back 500 years - everyone believed that the earth was flat and that the sun went around us. Is this a fact, simply because so many people believed it? I think you can see where Im going with that point...
Furthermore, you need to understand that we humans evolved an ability that has a survival benefit: gullibility. See, in our infancy as humans, we obtained our knowledge from elders. If you listened to an elder, your chances of survival were increased - when they told you to avoid the lion den or edge of a cliff, you listened and lived, or paid no heed and ended up lion food. Those that listened lived and passed on the genes for gullibiility... And, when our elders told us that we must sacrifice a goat to apease the Sun God, we believed that too. WE STILL believe those tales they told us, as they are now ingrained into our brains.
But that doesnt make them TRUE.

I'm Atheist, and I know this: I don't claim to have magical powers, I only know that I follow what I want and not some religious mind. Thta's all been said and done, and people still think the end of the world is coming in the next 20 years or so.

The Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) developed from the mythological beliefs of quasi-historic tribes of illiterate Semitic goat herders who believed that the earth was flat and that it was the center of the universe. Those beliefs were as fictional as the imaginary Gods they worshipped.
Religion is an entrenched social institution with thousands of years practice in psychological and behavioral control. Modern science is barely 200 years old – it time, science will triumph over religious ignorance and superstition. Truth is on the Atheists’ side.

Your question is based on a false premise. Atheists do not claim to be the “keepers” of any truth; they are “seekers” of truth who let the evidence speak for itself. It is theists who impose imaginary falsehoods upon reality and then claim to be the “keepers” of truth and knowledge.

The vast majority of religious people "believe they alone are the enlightened keepers of truth and the rest of the world and vast majority of people in it are just sadly deluded," as you put it.

Not true, Buddhists alone counts for almost 10% of the world's population and it is an atheistic religion.
Not long ago 90% plus people thought the world was flat, except a few scholars who argued otherwise. People are stubborn, and we have gone far past discrediting most organized religions. Not with that goal in mind, but the knowledge we have now does so itself.

If 99% of the world believed that the world was flat, it wouldn't make it so.
Whatever flavour of theist you happen to be, recognize that the majority of the world believe something different from you (the largest religon, Christianity, is followed only by some 33% of the world). Are they all sadly deluded?

I think they want to "control" themselves and are overprotective of their souls and do not want any God controlling them. They do not have a unified belief system nothing really to prescribe to except that they don't believe in God. They may have something wrong with them like being anti-social or something and that could be a reason as well. Since most humans long to believe in a creator and need to have guidance and what a sad life it would be not to have faith and belief.

You have the innocently unenlightened, who are simply uninformed and doubtful since they have atheists screaming into their ear louder than the faithful, so they end up spitting out the same vile until they come to their senses and find god..
Then you have the deviants and selfish, whom MUST, in their mind, have disbelief in god. I mean, how could they sodomize, cheat, lie, steal if they were to give their heart to god? It feels too GOOOOOOOD to give that stuff up, so they think. they have no idea that god gives them so much more.
Then you have the politicians and media on the left who must marginalize religion, diminish it in order to get the left elected. Look at San Francisco.
But the bottom line is, it's prophecy. It is supposed to go down like this. That 9% will matasticize as they teach their own children the same filth and it grows and grows. The masses will turn against god, and the chit will hit the fan for them. Sad. Save as many innocents as u can, thats all u can do, for most it's too late.
