One caught in a net by commercial fishermen in Northern Minnesota many years ago and registered with the department of natural resources measured twelve feet from tail to nose but, due to badly deterioration couldn't be weighted but was estimated at about 800 pounds.

They can get much bigger than that.
No one knows why Sturgeon jump, theories abound; to get rid of parasites, feeding, mating displays, because they think it's fun...no one knows.
