I have a 47" Vizio 1080p tv (which I love), but the only thing i don't get is this: when i press info and the bar on the top part of the screen comes up, it says for RESOLUTION: 480i ... i set the tv up with an XBOX 360 and when i'm playing a game on that it says 1080p. I would like this when i'm watching "regular" tv. I have a High Definition Cable box as well and when i watch HD channels it still just says 480i under RESOLUTION. The quality is better on HD channels yet the resolution does not change. is their a way to change or "fix" this? THANK YOU for your time.

Your TV automatically adjusts to 1080p all inputs. Info displays the resolution of the INPUT source, in this case your set-top box.
You need to re-configure your set-top box.
Make sure you use component, DVI, or HDMI cables to connect the box to the TV (that yellow composite is for SD only)

make sure you set it for a 16:9 TV
make sure it outputs 720p or 1080i

By the way "meekless" is so wrong, it is embarassing.

Every TV scales all input signals to its native resolution.
Say your TV has 1920x1080 pixels (native res.). If the input has say 720x480 pixels (from a DVD), all pixels need to show something, can't be blank. So the TV scales the input 720x480 to fit the screen, and yes, this is called upscaling to 1080p.
By the way, upscaling DVDs are mostly a waste of money. Most new HDTVs can do a far better job.

The problem you have is a difference between your HD source and your HD display.
The two sources you are talking about (XBOX 360, and HD cable) output is just 720p, and your TV cannot upconvert that signal to1080p output, no TV on the market upconverts a signal, there are DVD players that can do this, upconvert standard DVD's or HD-DVD players that upconvert to a 1080p output, but this is not a true full HD signal. Those extra lines of resolution are just data the player interpolates.
So, when you watch HD cable, or play XBOX 360, you will not get a 1080p signal to display on your TV because the XBOX and the HD cable do not upconvert to1080p.

Overall just keep in mind a tv is basiclly a monitor, all it does is display a signal, it does not upconvert a signal to a higher resolution. So if watching regular tv, or cable the signal will just be standard defintion. Now one thing a TV can do is if the signal is 720p, like the XBOX 360, you can watch it in 1080i, and this in something you do at the TV.
I hope this helps, just remember just because your tv is 1080p doesnt mean everything you watch will be true 1080p. The only two things on the market that output true 1080p signals are the Playstation3 and a Blue ray player.
