I multiply this chocolate cookie recipe X8 (that probably doesn't matter).
I've been making this same recipe for 1 year. It's always been the right consistency. Yet last 2X it just came out too mushy. (Actually, same thing happened one other time a month ago)

Theories: 1)I packed the brown sugar too much
2)The weather was too hot or muggy

It was probably either the weather or the size of the eggs. Did you presift the flour? Humidity definitely affects flour if it's not sifted before measuring. Large vs. jumbo eggs, etc. can add too much liquid to the recipe. I don't think you can overpack brown sugar. If anything, one might not pack it enough.

My best guess is either the eggs were larger, so too much liquid, or not enough flour.

You seem to be talking about the dough rather than the finished cookie. If you actually meant after they were baked, your oven thermostat might be going.

That happened to me before when I changed my measuring cups. Now I definitely stick to my Pyrex cup..it seems as though the little cute ones aren't quite 'standard' measure.

Weather has a LOT to do with baking and if eggs are part of the dough recipe are they the same size eggs?

This has happened to me too. I would suggest option 2. I don't think you can over pack brown sugar. It is supposed to be tightly packed down.

I do think that atmosphere might play a part. Maybe if you bake d them just a tad more, let cool on rack. I know that if its hot nothing sitting out fares well, everything droops just like our hair. lol. when its too cold, just cant get things to lighten up lol.

I think you did not cook it long enough or maybe did not pre heat oven enough.
