I just purchased a lower-end pair of Rollerblades- Astro ABT. I know that bearings can make a tremendous difference in skates. These came with what were designated only as SG5 bearings; even though I only plan on skating around my neighborhood, and am not super interested in speed at this point, would upgrading the bearings be recommended? I don't want to get frustrated by having to fight cheap, slow bearings if I can upgrade and get an better ride.

Since the wheel of a rollerblade contains the bearings, it is best to replace the entire wheel by unscrewing the nut and screw on each wheel and replace it with a new wheel.
