A dent is OK; it just means the can was dropped and got a dent in it. But don't eat from a can with a BULGE in it!

You should NEVER purchase or eat foods from a dented can (unless you just dropped it and dented it right now):

"Botulism can be prevented by practicing safe food handling
techniques and looking for warning signs in food packaging.
Visible indicators such as bulging or dented cans, clear liquids that have turned milky and cracked jars can indicate that Clostridium botulinum could be present."

You may not have a reaction, but PLEASE be careful in the future.

I'm pretty sure it is...I learned about it in Foods class last year, but I can't remember why...

EDIT:

Oh wait! Howard person above me has it right, lol. It is a bulge not a dent!

Because of the acid in pineapple you might NOT want to take a chance with it. The reaction of the acid with the tin in the can is toxic..

no not at all unless there is a hole in it because that just means that at some point some one dropped it or it hit against something else but it has nothing to do with whats inside
