Cheep Like $300 dollars or Country club for motorsports for $3,500 a year? Porche Club, BMW club And Viper club. Even Miata's rent tracks. My problem is using up a set of racing rubber in a weekend. And one tankfull of 106 octane a day. Living in Dallas Fort Worth we have two excelent tracks Grandbury Motor Sports Ranch and Eagle Canyon (both) country club membership tracks. And with in 300 miles another 3 tracks Hallett, Texas Motor Speedway and Motorsports Ranch Houston. Us poor Boys need speed too! Three sixty secons runs at a local Solo 2 or autocross just doesnot peak my interest like lowering lap times in 15 to 30 minute sessions. Really good street tires sway bars racing alignment and lot's of Horsepower!

First off, what do you mean by "racing?"

If you simply want to go to a race track and drive, almost every race track in the world has this. The track's themselves may offer an open track/test day here and there, and the tracks are also often rented out by clubs for the purpse of driving. A test day arranged by the track ownership is usually $100-$200/day. Club events range from about $150-400/day and will normally include instruction for novice drivers; price ranges here will depend on the club and number of drivers they plan to attend, the track itself (some tracks, like Laguna Seca, are very popular and have limited availability that result in higher rental costs), and the event specifics (are they hiring a full ambulance crew in case of an accident, ect).

If you are looking for an actual competitive event, there will be more limitations since the fact you are asking this would likely indicate that your own car does not feature a full roll cage, fuel sample port, six point harnesses, etc. Though there are still solo-racing events which are generally open to cars without all the safety requirements (though any thing mentioned here will require at least a helmet).

Solo1/Time Trial events are similar to open track/driver ed events, except that you are competing for best time. You are not racing wheel to wheel, only against the clock.

Solo2/Autocross is also racing against the clock, but as where Solo1/Time Trial type events take place at race tracks, Autocross generally will be temporary courses set up with traffic cones on large paved areas. Speeds are generally lower and seldomly exceed highway speeds.

If you actually want to race your car in wheel to wheel events, it would need all requried safety equipment, and you would need a racing license (the main purpose of the racing schools you mentioned).

Any and all of the above are alot of fun and offer the chance to learn alot about performance driving. Autocross is generally the most accessable in that it is the least expensive (event fees will usually be $20-40), and it has the least chance of resulting in damage to the car. Most clubs that run such events (SCCA, NASA, PCA, BMWCC, etc) have instruction available (keep in mind that even if you know how to drive a car, you will not know how to drive like this) and many also conduct autocross schools aimed for beginners where you can get a good amount of seat time.

Traveling to the UK from the US for 2 days simply isn't worth it so I won't even go there. The UK is very multi-cultural especially in the cities and the British are quite used to black people......and get used to that term, they don't use "African American"....they use "black". And the place has everything the US has...it isn't in some Victorian time warp. The only real difference you will see is they drive on the wrong side of the road and talk with a funny accent. Expensive at the moment though due to the weak dollar. Good for me though when I change pounds into dollars.

Check with the SCCA for Solo events. They set up a little road course and cars run one at a time.

Or, of course, there's always drag racing. Bracket racing is fun and any stock car can be entered.

Check with you local tracks. Sometimes they organize events where you bring out your own car. I have even been to them were you race local police on the strip! Yes, Infineon does have this, it is the Wed night drags, usually during the summer.

NASA (National Auto Sport Association) has track days where you can race your car around a track with instructors available. SCCA probably has the same thing available.

I believe Infineon raceway in Calif has track time available for that purpose but don't know if it is just for the dragstrip or if it includes the road course.
