I was told that I was fat, over and over, when I was in high school. Kids can be mean.
I weighed 100-105 pounds. I am 5'0" tall. I believed it after awhile. I went on a diet and developed anorexia.
That was YEARS ago.
Those words had a profound effect on me.
Believe it. Words have power.
I now weigh between 76-82 pounds.

Yes, words do have power, when they are employed to bring across a message. The fact is that words can be so powerful that they can dictate how you feel, behave and even perceive things. Have you ever considered how you can be in a very good mood and somebody says something to you and all that just changed. This is because words have creative powers and they can create and destroy a perfectly good or bad environment.
Jesus said that His words are spirit. This simply means that whatever is spoken does impact something somewhere. Moreover, why would so many people suffer for what they say if words were powerless. Here are some scriptures that emphasizes the strength of words
Proverbs 18:21 (King James Version
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Matthew 12:36 (King James Version)
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
God bless

Oh yes, words can have power! For me, it's often words that are attached to music that has the most impact. I don't know that I would call it "spiritual" for me, but certainly it gives me such an overwhelming emotion throughout my entire body - and especially my heart.
In figure skating, we mostly have to pick music without words (bummer). The events we were allowed to have lyrics, I chose the music very carefully. I am (was) an emotional skater and music (lyric) is what helped me get through my program (skating from the heart).
What comes to mind is when my good friend/coach became a total jerk and a half - and I made the decision to switch coaches (and drop the friendship). My new coach choreographed the music I picked . . . it helped me to "let go" in more ways than one (and to skate my best). One of the few songs where I "felt it" in every practice . . . probably because it was heard throughout the very rink where I skated with the old coach - and I knew he was there listening.
Yanni - Love Is All
(the part I skated anyway)
Was raining in my heart, falling deep inside of me.
Drowning in my soul, this silence rushes over me.
I am breath against this fire, and i will not turn away. oh no
I'm waiting for time to carry me, like a tempest to the sea.
Standing strong, watching over
"Chorus"
Love will keep me believing.
Through the dark, can you hear me calling?
Holding on when I'm dreaming.
Love is all, Love is all, love is all.

Words have power in the spiritual as will as the natural realm. Many people live in quiet desperation over words spoken long ago that crippled them. Things said that may not even be remembered by the person who spoke the words are still ringing in the ears of the person who was harmed. In a positive light, you can "speak a person to life" by a kind word or an offer to be there for them. The Word is a double edged sword of power.

Our words absolutely have power. We are made in God's image and He spoke creation into existence. We have the same power within us. As someone already mentioned, "life and death are in the tongue" and blessing and cursing is done by speaking words. Jesus is the Word made flesh. It doesn't get more powerful than that. Spiritual power is something that needs to be harnessed and directed. There's a reason why the tongue is compared to the rudder on a boat; a small item with great power.

Words do have power. What we say out-loud and repeat we become. This is not only a powerful belief of the christian religion but of psychology as well. If we 'claim' something it becomes us. If a person wishes to change something about themselves a tool would be to talk as if you were that way again and again. Our mind is a powerful tool and our spirit is a powerful thing. Our God is a powerful God for making us so wonderful. Think of it our bodies are constantly replenishing itself. Our ability to change our circumstances is amazing. Our ability to dream and create new things is phenomenal. Unfortunately the ability to find fault and war is in us too....

We can create sound but we cannot speak without a tongue. The tongue can murder someone by attacking their motives, life, and character. I am not speaking of physical murder but of the emotional destruction of someone's physche and self-esteem.
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. James 3:5-10

Hi Ram :) Do "words" have power within the spiritual aspect of life?
Oh yes... :) 3 examples come to mind and which I use all the time in my walk (some more than others, lol)
1) Words can build you up or tear you down...psychological warfare vs blessings and discipline (Reprove, rebuke, exhort :)
2) Words in praising and in worship, and in singing and praying (in the natural or in Spirit)
3) In Spiritual Warfare (ie: rebuking satan, deliverance, miracles, etc.,.
Peace be with you :)

Mat 15:17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
