None! :) we don't allow video games in our house...perhaps when our kids are in middle school/high school and have proved they can manage their time responsibly we will consider allowing a minimal amount of game playing.

if they had put a restriction on me i would have never got into computers, or games development for that matter - and thank god that turned out to be a bigger industry than hollywood. Thats a fact.

depending on their age and the content of course, 20 hours a week is about the average: take into account a lot of the time video games now replace television. What you need to look out for is how it affects them - do they become reclusive? are they eating and exercising right? Socialising?

games can be very good for both learning (there are titles..) and socialising - the nintendo wii is now infamous for drinking parties... but even among the kiddies its a big hit ^_^ (the wii, not the beer)

a child under 5 shouldnt really be playing more than 2 or so hours a week if they play at all - 5 up to 10 just use the age rule: 5 at 5, 8 at 8, etc. if you really wanna enforce restriction.

My son is only 3 and I don't allow video games yet. He has barely even used a computer yet. Children should be restricted to no more than 1 hour a day, IF their chores and homework are done. They need to have at least 1 hour of physical activity a day, perferably outdoors.
