How? There is no evidence that even if all the scientists there ever existed were atheists that it is an atheist activity...Considering that there are many christians who contribute to scientific research, what gives atheists the balls to claim science as their own?

Humble humbert, simply read the other posts replies. Science is like the ultimate gold standard for many atheists! Many comments like "If only they read science, they wouldn't believe in God"--prevail among atheists.

If I remember my history books correctly, it was somewhere during the "Age of Reason" (around Ben Franklin's time). That's when people were grasping the idea that science could explain, and even alter, natural phenomenon. As a result, some people "reasoned" that science and religion were mutually exclusive because many religious leaders adamantly held that man cannot alter natural phenomena.
Personally, it baffles me that some people still think that science and religion don't mix. I'm both a Christian and a scientist. I don't check my brains at the door of religion, and I don't check my religion at the door of science.

Science exists (by definition) exclusive of the "supernatural", since it deals only with the observation, measurement & modelling of the natural universe. Therefore atheism has not "usurped science" as its own, because Christians BY DEFINITION believe in the supernatural! Christians have indeed contributed much to the body of knowledge that is "science", but at the same time have continued to believe in a "God" for whom there is no empirical evidence. Indeed, it is a basic requirement of Christianity ("faith") that one believe in something that cannot be proven!

I believe that if you make a research (which have already been made) about the percentage of atheists in the scientific community, they are the big majority. And I think that there are reasons for this. I don't think that anyone logic claimed ever that all scientists are atheists. And If he believes that he is wrong.

This is the dumbest rant I've read in a long time!
What Atheist made these claims?
While they may say reading science would make you an Atheist, they usually don't say science belongs to Atheists.
Those are two different things.

It isn't that. It's just that science has this habit that it keeps finding things in the holy texts that are wrong. Also since we have no preconceived idea as to the nature and origin of the Universe, we tend to look to science for our answers.
It is not an atheist activity, and I have never heard anyone make that claim. But you do need to check any preconceived ideas at the lab door to do good science.

I have never heard atheists claim science as their own. There are many, many religious scientists - from a wide range of religions and beliefs. Not sure where you are getting your information, but it isn't very scientific.....

its not about the scientists. science itself is non-religious.
it doesnt matter what religion a scientist is, aslong as he can undeniably prove a statement with experiements its true.
many religious men have contributed great things to science. Newton for example, Einstein is another and there are many more. But they all did so without letting their own beleifs corrupt their work.
science uses these steps:
- observe.
- hypothesise.
- prove via experiment.
anything with any deity strands at step 2.

We don't claim science as our own. Science and atheism have nothing to do with each other. It's the religious who try to make science a religious issue, and try to claim that unsubstantiated beliefs and wishful thinking are somehow "science". Unfortunately, atheists are the ones who are the most forcefully fighting this.

Atheists haven't usurped science - it's actually the other way round. Christianity has been left behind by science and those who continue to cling to it alienate themselves from views based on logic and evidence.

Actually, the very definition of science is the study of the natural world. That excludes the supernatural and by extension any religion or deity.
Anyways, no one needs to claim science; it is here for the benefit of us all. Or do you keep away from modern medicine and modern technology? That you are asking this question through this medium would indicate the opposite.
