acetaminophen is not a narcotic and cannot get you High. It's designed for pain relief and as you already know if you take too much It can cause liver problems.

Can Acetaminophen Get You High

Well, I disagree with the previous replies about one thing. Just beacause acetaminophen is not a narcotic and is sold over the counter does NOT mean that it can't get you high. In this case, they are correct that you won't get high, because acetaminophen doesn't have any properties that would give any type of pleasurable feeling or any sort of high, but the fact that its an OTC drug means nothing.

You can find some examples of non narcotic OTC medications that can get you high. DXM, which is the active ingredient (and sometimes the only ingredient) in some cough syrups can be abused and cause a "high" feeling. ven something like Benadryl has caused hallucinations in high enough doses, although most report that they aren't pleasant. PSE, the active ingredient in sudafed can act as a stimulant like speed, and is actually sold behind the counter of most stores because the DEA has regulated sales on it due to it being a precursor to meth. So, just because something is sold in stores without a prescription doesn't mean it cant be abused.

No, since acetaminophen is over the counter, that means it has a very low potential for abuse, since it is only effective for treating mild to moderate pain. If you could get high off it, it would be prescription only and could be used to treat severe pain.

Don't be fooled, people die from taking too much Acetaminophen! Acute renal failure and liver failure (among other things) are not fun! Do not try it--it is a guaranteed trip to the hospital if you take more than 4000 mg in one day, or even 2000 mg if you drink alcohol with it.

For normal use, don't take more than 3000 mg a day (and that's being conservative). Do not take Acetaminophen with alcohol.

I agree with Jimmy. Just because it's over-the-counter, and not technically a narcotic, it doesn't mean that it can't get you high. Cough syrup can get you high, it it isn't a narcotic, and it's an over the counter.
