I take 80 mg oxycodone every 4 hours and I notice i get the chills all day. I am always hot/flush and seating but i am cold to the bone. I think this is very weird. The sweat will be pouring off my face, but i will be bundled up in a sweater or a blanket because i am so cold. Is this because pain killer dehydrate you. Will drinking more water help me?

this is a very strange reaction. It sounds like your body is fighting the medication and that's why you are getting hot. You definitely have to drink more water because of sweating so much. Try drinking hot Ginger Tea with honey throughout the day to see if this can knock out the cold sensations you are feeling.

if this continues call your doctor and ask what can be done.

Sweating is a fairly common side effect of all opioids like oxycodone. It's not as common of a side effect as nausea, itching, drowsiness, or constipation, but it is definitely a recognized side effect of the medication. If oxycodone works well to control your pain, but the side effects are bothersome, you do have options. First would be to continue the oxycodone. Side effects tend to diminish over time, and there is a good chance that the sweating will eventually no longer be a problem. Another option would be to switch to a different opioid. There are several other opioids available, like morphine, hydromorphone, oxymorphone, and fentanyl. Everybody reacts differently to medications, so a different medication will probably control your pain without the sweating or other side effects.

I have taken oxycodone for over 3 years. It sounds to me like your dosage is too high, 80 mg every 4 hours, Try taking it every 6 hours and see if you still have the same symptoms, consult with your Dr first. But personally I think your body is telling you that the meds are too strong. Do drink lots of water.. Good Luck. I hope you get better..

holy crap! that's ALOT of pain medication...but i know what you mean. i suffer from a chronic pain condition and i take 30mg of ms contin every 12 hours and 30mg of hydrocodone every 8 along with a musle relaxer. the answer is YES...most any narcotic analgesic will give you the sweats. i just drink plenty of water and if it's real bad, i'll put a cold washcloth on my face. good luck!
