If it swelled out, then it isnt swelling on the inside of his brain. Just watch him for a few hours to make sure he is acting ok. If you notice any blank staring, or just acting "off" get him to the ER.
You will need to wake him up every few hours thru-out the night. Watch for any vomiting or acting lethargic.

If he is acting funny, loss of balance or losing conciousness then he could have a concussion. Also keep him up for the next couple hours and watch him. Make sure his eyes are not dialated. If he is exibiting any of these signs or is just not acting normal then go to the doctors right away.

i would just take him in anyway to see a doctor because kid's skulls are not fully fused together yet until there about 5 yrs old so it can cause blot clots and other problems. Just to be on the safe side take him in...especially if after he fell he is really sleepy, decreases in activity, or vomits...it can be a sign of a concussion.

If your worried go have him checked out.... Dont let him go to sleep for a few hour so you can keep an eye on him.....
I know it looks bad and you feel really bad, but accidents happen and he is tougher then you think.... babies fall all the time. As long as he is acting normal he will be ok.

Watch his eyes. If they are dilating normally he is ok, but if they are changing constantly you need to take him to the ER. Also if he is vomiting. Fever does not indicate a head injury.
