I highly recommend the Ruger 10/22, IMO it's the best "value" .22 on the market.
Pros
Reasonable accurate, out of the box.
Nice selection of inexpensive high capacity clips(Eagle - Mitchell - etc)
Durable.
Cons
"doesn't jam" >There have been problems in the past with the Ruger 10rd rotary clip not wanting to feed that 10th round. I have had this problem with one(clip), and know of others who have had the same problem.
The Dick's Sporting Goods in my area sells the Ruger 10/22 for $159 when they have a sale.

Any semi auto .22 will jam from time to time. Of the .22s I own the 10/22 runs the best. On any of the .22s just make sure the camber stays pretty clean and dry. Sometimes the ammo will make a difference as well. My10/22 hates Federal ammo and runs well with CCI blazer. Accuracy was great out of the box and floating the factory made it better still. The only con I see with the 10/22 is the factory stock. I don't like the way it feels but that varies between shooter. All in all you should be happy with it.

I have the Ruger 10/22 rifle and love it. I paid $170 for the rifle.
Many after market products to dress your rifle up to your taste. (Stocks,Barrels,Larger capacity round clips) Right now, mine is mostly stock. I have a BSA Scope, which has a Guide Gear Tactical 24/7 Sighting System (Laser Sight & Light) mounted on the 10/22. I also have 4 Eagle 30 round clips and 2 Butler Creek 25 round clips, as well as the stock Ruger 10 round clip. I want and will do more with the Ruger 10/22, with time.
My 10/22 has and does jam up here and there, but I could live with that. My first 22lr rifle was a Marlin 70HC and I started having lots of issues of the thing jamming on me. Sold the thing to my cousin, went out and bought the Ruger 10/22. It jams a lot less than the Marlin did.
The Ruger 10/22 as you heard right, is a pretty tough and accurate rifle. Go ahead and buy one.... I doubt you'll have much trouble with this rifle.

I have had one for years and have had no problems with mine. I think they are a great rifle and would recommend it. As an added advantage, there are plenty of after market parts for you to really pimp up your rifle. The barrel is easily changed so you can install a match grade barrel yourself with only common tools that you have around the house. I can't really think of any cons about the Ruger 10/22. It's a well made gun by a reputable company and repair parts are readily available. Add to this all of the after market stuff that is available for customizing and you have a real winner of a gun.

#1 Selling Ruger Rifle in the United States......
Easily affordable great shooting, out of the box accuracy., comes with Weaver type Scope mount included. Available in22LR caliber, 22WMR caliber.17HMR caliber. A total blast to shoot, upgrade and buy accessories for..
The only DOWN SIDE is the fact a few states have already or are attempting to ban ANY magazines that will hold more than 10 rounds.(Not to worry Ruger 10-22's come with a standard 10 round magazine)California even attempted to put it on it's list of Banned Assault Weapons because of it's extended magazine capabilities (Typical for California)

Great rifle. I have run 2000+ rounds through mine and only had one jam, not because of the gun, but the shell was deformed. I have a cheap 4x20 tasco scope on it ($20) and it has yet to miss a squirrel. I have tried a lot of different ammo brands/types and all cycle through excellent. Now that the assault rifle ban has expired, you can get a 50 round mag for it. It's awesome. For the price, you won't be disappointed.

Hello,, this is the best .22 rifle I ever owned . The Marlin model 60 jams too much no matter what I did, the best advice I can say is buy the Ruger and use CCI mini-mag ammo. The Rem. and Fed. ammo is too dirty and will ruin your day.,even if you take the time to remove all the dirty oil from them and that sucks!!

I've got one and it's a really good gun
Pros: small, accurate, can upgrade ALOT, cheap, made by Ruger so you know it's good, can take alot of magazines and extremely easy to break down and clean.
Cons: The factory stock is pretty cheap and crappy. The sights too aren't so great but that's about it.

The 10/22's are excellent guns. With thousands of aftermarket parts. They are very affordable. A few of the ones I have had have been somewhat ammo picky but all in all I would still highly recommend them
