The answer depends on what you think "religion" is and what "religion" we're talking about. If "religion" is just something man makes up and can easily pick one or the other, than it may or may not be important. I'd still say "yes" probably, because it can give people a basis for right behavior.
But if a "religion" (say Christianity) is real, a real description of real People and things, then what's the difference between today and 2,000 years ago? Do the multiplication tables become out of date just because they've been around a long time? Does gravity become outmoded just because it's been around as long as the universe? Does a true statement become false simply because of the passage of time?
No, truth is truth, and time passage or increase in knowledge has nothing to do with it. Increase in knowledge may prove a statement false that was formerly thought to be true, but if the statement was true 2,000 years ago it's still true today and forever: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."

From what I know of psychology, the core of human nature has changed very little in recorded history. Religion seems to always be one of those primary institutions wherever you find a society. So, religion would be just as important to us now as it has always been. It will likely remain so until we change fundamentally as a species.
That being said, religion isn't important to all individuals. Just like today, there have always been plenty of folks throughout history for whom religion has held no personal relevance.
footnote: The relevance of any particular religion to its society of course waxes and wanes. It's overall functions are the consistent bits.

If it leads to spirituality, yes. But Craigerz is right. If your point of view is that religion MUST be done YOUR way, and if you feel free to judge and condemn your brothers and sisters in Christ because they don't share your opinions about God and spirituality, then I would say your religion is bad, is not Christian, because it doesn't foster "love one another" as Jesus commanded us.
But if your religious point of view is that religion is a tool to use to know God better, a means to drawing closer to God, a paradigm that shows us what "loving one another" means, then yes: your religion is good IMO, and is Christian.
Today being "cool" is everything, and I'm not just talking about kids and adolescents. Even with adults: it's cool to be republican, it's politically correct to hate Muslims, it's politically correct to say you love war: all these things are against the gospel Jesus gave us. If religion can bring the true gospel of love to a world tha worships "cool," then we DEFINITELY need it today.

Religion is the least important subject today because religion has become an evil institution that people are coming to realize today.

You are I are not the ones who define what is important. God does.................and faith is important to Him. Jesus did not die to give us a relgion - our faith is about a personal relationship with God made possible by the forgiveness of sins through Christ............it's not a religion.
Back to topic - we can decide what is important to us - but what we decide may not stack up to His priorities. It's arrogant on our part to even think we decide.

It depends on what you believe.
I love Jesus, so my relationship with Him is important to me.
I would venture to guess that atheists would say that religion is not important.
