Well, he just left yesterday and was supposed to arrive in Illinois in the evening. When he arrives, he's required to call someone and let them know he arrived safely. But no one has received a call from him. He told me he'd call me and I would notify his parents. Do I have reason to worry?
And another question: Assuming everything is alright, am I allowed to send anything other than letters while he's at boot camp (i.e. pictures, care packages, etc.) Thanks.

He joined the Navy. The thing is, he was required to call someone. He's not going to get the chance another time. This was just a "I'm here" 30 second call. I'm not expecting to talk to him and have a conversation, but I just want to know that he made it alright. It's standard protocol at least for the Navy.

he will be told when he can make that call. Mine didn't make it until his second day after arriving.
NOTHING other than letters cards and pictures you don't mind your sainted grandmother seeing. NO pacakges, especially food. Back in my day(12 years ago) you couldn't even send the Sunday comics or the sports page.

Unless something has changed, there is no phone call telling someone he's arrived. You won't hear from him for a week or maybe two, again, unless something has changed. Send letters only, no care packages. I wouldn't send pictures either but you probably can.

So his parents haven't heard either eh? He was probably just worn out and will call in the next couple of days. The first few days are quite active. I would limit it to letters while he is at boot camp.

He will call. It took our daughter 2 days to call. The only thing you can send during basic training is letters and pictures. No porn or suggestive pictures, no care packages.

Don't worry. Patience, you're going to have to start learning this very soon.
You can send letters and pictures.
My fiance's dad sent him cookies for his birthday and they ended up sharing them with the guys in his platoon. Food is not recommended though. Just stick to letters and pictures--nothing too sexy they are all reviewed, he'll treasure them.

You should be able to get all of these answers from your local recruiting office. They can give you all the info regarding the boot camp process as well as rules and regs.

same thing happened to me with my boyfriend, but the thing is when they first arrive they usually will spend a few days to a week in reception. And that call is not given to them until they are actually in bootcamp, dont worry give it a week, and he will call. :)
