Interesting question to say the least. I was raised a Christian, and still do believe in the bible. That said, I have done much research since my daughter died at age 16. I am not convinced that God literally answers our prayers... but i DO believe he is there, and created this world. As for the after life.. I totally believe there is one. I am convinced that our souls are eternal, and if say, a person is particularly wicked in this world there are still lessons for him/ her to learn and wont get the full REST of heaven, but regardless his soul will live on. I don't pray anymore, but I still know HE is up there, choosing not to interfere with our everyday lives so we can learn our own lessons. I know the baptists believe "once saved always saved" and that's kinda hard to swallow for me....I dunno. I, as will all of us, find out someday. I do my best here on this earth in hopes to see my daughter again. Thanks for this thought provoking question.

Hellenic religion isn't salvific. There are acts that we can do in our daily lives that can hinder our relationships with our gods, but generally these aren't of the eternal variety. That being said, a number of the Gods are known as being Saviors. This tends to be in the since of leading one to a particular type of spiritual enlightenment consistent with the nature of the particular God who is acting as Savior.
As to the afterlife, our religion doesn't have a clearly delineated belief that's ascribed to by most practitioners. Some believe in reincarnation. Some believe those who live good lives experience a richer afterlife. Some believe most of us just fade into increasingly less cohesive shades.

I'm Jewish. In Judaism, everyone is equal in the eyes of G-d. No one is better than anyone else. And since there is no Hell, everyone has a place in the World to Come. We have different paths to get there, but we all go there. Sin is not something to be afraid of. If you've sinned, all that means is that you've made a mistake. To atone for that mistake, all you have to do is apologize to the person you've hurt and ask for their forgiveness. Then you have to work to never cause that kind of harm again. It's up to that person to forgive you. Your responsibility stops at the SINCERE attempt to make amends. But, you have to be sincere. G-d knows if your apology is sincere or empty.
But if you screw up, you're in no way damned for eternity. Your "hell" as it were is the guilt you have to deal with in this life; your punishment is had in THIS life. We can't know what happens when we die. All we can do is make sure we do what we can to make our lives and the lives of others as good as possible.

I am a theosophical Abrahamic Sikh today. I'm still searcing, but I like to make up different names that describe my beleifs to see how they sound.
It's a combination of Islamic reason and God, and the monotheistic Sikh views of the universe and society.
As for the afterlife, one must live a life that is not too materialistic and not to asthetic and self-torturous. You also have to do good deeds as well. A sin is only an action that causes more bad than good.

Independant Baptist: YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO EARN HEAVEN.
Jesus did it all for you. Don't trust your good works, don't trust in words you've praid, and don't trust in vain religion. Place your faith in what Jesus did for you, and trust HIM and HIM alone! if you believe him you won't be ashamed of him and will therefore confess him with your mouth, but confessing him with your mouth is nto a means to salvation. The mouth is only a tool for the confession that comes from the heart. Read Romans 10:9-13. Keep in mind, the mouth is a tool.

It's salvation by faith in Jesus Christ. That is the only way according to my 'religion'.
Since certain words have taken negative meanings and connotations I will define the word faith for your information:
Faith =Trust
Religion = traditions and works that many rely on to save them.
The relationship with God is apart from 'religious' necessity in many cases.

I am a Christian, but I do not belong to any denomination. I don't believe that doctrines put in place by man can get you into heaven. I do believe that you must first accept Jesus as your Saviour and do as he commanded by loving God above all else and loving your neighbor as yourself. You must also repent of your sins and request forgiveness from God.
