Jesus was the first of God's creations was here since the beginning of time. So he was around and ruling from heaven during the time the Old Testatment was written.
He is the only creation by the Almighty the rest was done by Jesus.
Neither was ever violent or vengeful. they were responding to the wicked people of the time. they were trying to get these people to quit burning up their first born baby.

Thus saith the LORD: "Whatsoever a man soweth that he shall reaps"
God is just therefore when he punish people for their sins it is justice. He is jealous and the reason was in Jeremiah 2 & 3.
God showed Himself as a pillar of cloud and fire and yet His very own people forgot Him.
If you have children and you took care of them, nurtured and loved them. When your old they placed you in a home and adopted other elderly to show off, what would you feel?
Have you ever heard of Righteous Indignation?...
Always remember God hates sin. Any punitive action that God does is called justice...

vengence is mine sayeth the Lord, I am a jealous God sayeth the Lord and, when Jesus turned down all the tables in the temple he probably got pretty violent. and, When Jesus defeated Satan at the Cross he took on violence if you think about it. so, I guess the answer is yes.
