Both my grandmothers have diabetes. One of them just barely has it I think. My mom is in the early stages of it. My maternal grandpa had it. Almost every "grand" relationship I have (like grandmothers, great grandmother) have (or had) some kind of heart problem. Everyone in my family is diagnosed with depression. My mom was diagnosed w/ bipolar disorder. I swear my dad and my aunt have mild paranoia. But they haven't been diagnosed with it.

What I meant by barely having diabetes is that it is in the first stages.

I have a similar situation: all of my "grands" have diabetes, one parent had bipolar, the other depression.
I have depression myself (mild to moderate, but not responsive to treatment). As far as diabetes, I don't have it yet. My doc told me the single most important thing you can do to prevent it is to maintain a healthy weight.

Just because your family members have diabetes, does not necessarily mean that you will. You just have a higher chance of getting it then others. And even if you get it, as long as you maintain a normal weight and exercise and watch what you eat and monitor your sugar it can be controlled, it isn't the end of the world. And heart problems are the same way, you just have to watch how you take care of your self, to avoid it. Mental issues can run in families, if you think you have a problem see a doctor.

I have pretty much everything going on that you have minus the dad with paranoia. I just started at an early age watching my sugar. The whole bipolar thing i don't think I'm that extreme but i do get erratic sometimes and it even freaks me out. Other than that i wouldn't worry too much about it. Just take some precautions. <3

First you can not just barely have diabetes. You either have it or you don't. I would recommend you go get tested because it is not some thing you play around with and diabetes is hereditary. You should be able to tell if you have a mental illness on your own

A. Take Steven's advice.
B. Don't sweat your chromosomes. You can take care of your health, and probably avoid diabetes if you educate yourself and put the best health advice into practice.
"Mental" illnesses such as you describe do not neatly fall on every one in a family.
If anyone focuses too hard on their family health history, they'll get all--well, all paranoid.

Talk to a doctor about what you can start doing NOW to avoid developing diabetes.
Explain that you're at risk, and list all the relatives with it.
