I'm a Mom of a 6 year old boy. I have both piercings and tattoos, some before he was born and some after. Piercings in my nose, eyebrow, labret, tongue, cartilage and tragus and 5 tattoos(had nipple and bellybutton done as well but removed them when I was pregnant). My latest tattoo is of his name in a heart with angel wings which he calls my "special tattoo". He used to say when he was little that he was going to grow up and pierce is tongue too but now doesn't even to notice any of them, lol.

Get the tattoo first. #a million Its less complicated to pierce round a tattoo then to tattoo round a piercing. #two in case you get the piercing first, and also you go away it in even as getting the tattoo performed (relying at the fabric) you run the danger of potentially grounding out the tattoo gun and getting electrocuted. I might get the tattoo first, and make certain its entirely healed earlier than going to get the outside piercing performed. Also, you desire to be careful for indicators of rejection with floor piercings. They are enormously inclined to "push out" of the epidermis in that field. That would damage your tattoo except you capture it in time. Make definite you cross to a legit store for the piercing (or preferrably each) and so they have got to use a staple formed barbell, or tygon.

I have 6 tats. I got my first at 14yo and my mom through a fit. I got the rest of them when I was out of the house.
1-A heart on my ankle.
2 - An eye on my right arm
3 - A heart on my shoulder with my kids names in it.
4- A bleeding rose.
5- A sea turtle.
6- A lamma outline.
My kids are 6yo and 8yo. When I first got the eye they loved it. My daughter still jokes that her mommy has more eyes than most because I have one on my arm. She says her favorite is the Sea Turtle or the Eye.
My son likes to poke the eye on my arm just to be silly and like the Sea Turtle the best. They think all of them are really cool and when they get old enough if they want one I would be happy to go get a new one with them.
My mom still freaks out when I tell her I got a new one. LOL
I don't have any piercings because I have a needle phobia but if that is how my kids chose to express themselves when they are older then I am ok with it just don't ask me to watch!
Good luck with your paper!

I think both tattoos and piercings are ugly and abnormal ways of expression (if taken to extremes). I feel that if you want to express yourself you can do it from within rather than from the outside. To me it's basically for stares and attention which is a sign of low self esteem. People who feel a need to be recognized and don't know any other way resort to hanging these signs on their body to say 'hey look at me'. If you were to ask 100 people at random what their true feelings are when they see someone with holes poked at various places in their body and all inked up with tattoos I guarantee you the results would be astonishing (especially to someone that has them). My guess would be about 90% of the people polled would say it looks hideous. If you don't believe me look around when you see someone with them in a public place like a mall or public event and just watch peoples reaction when they see them. Don't get me wrong I think a small tattooo that is placed where it doesn't draw stares from passersby can be cute on a female or nice on a guy as long as it is appropriate rather than gaudy. It's the fact that many people take it to the extreme and don't know when to stop. Pierced ear lobes in order for a female to wear nice jewelry (one on each lobe) and even a cute belly button 'thingy' is acceptable. It's just my opinion and like those who are for it we are each entitled to our own opinion.
PS.... if we were meant to have things hanging on our body we would have been born with the holes already there.

I have a bracelet tattoo of violets on my wrist. My daughter, who is now 10, thinks it's pretty. She sometimes gets those temporary tattoos that wrap around your wrist, and others that she can wash off. I don't have a problem with her getting a real one in the future, as long as she is mature enough to get one that she will not regret.
Got my first and only one at 29 years old. I plan on getting another, but I can't decide on what I want.

I have both.... 1 piercing and 2 tattoos. I have my tongue pierced and had it before my son was born. When he was an infant he was mesmerized by it. I got both tattoos after he was born (one when he was 3 and one when he was 5) he thinks they both are cool... especially the one with his name. He cannot wait until he is an adult and can get a tattoo.

I have my eyebrow pierced and plan to get a tattoo as soon as I'm done nursing my son. My husband has his tongue pierced, his nipples pierced, and two tattoos (one on each upper arm).
Our son, only 6 months old, only thinks that they are shiny new toys for him to grab at. I'm sure that once he gets older, he'll ask questions, but we plan to raise him knowing that there are many ways in which someone can express themselves and each individual has to find his/her own way of doing so. It just so happens that Mommy and Daddy chose body art.

I am a mother of three and have a tatoo on my ankle. TOTALLY regret doing it. My kids are still young enough that they haven't really noticed it. But I'm also in the process of getting laser treatments to remove it. I would really be upset if one of my children got a tattoo. Piercing I don't think is as big of a deal, at least you can just remove the piercing if you get sick of it.

I do have a tattoo, it's a shamrock on my lower back. My son is only 2 1/2 so he's fascinated by it when he does see it.

I have 2 tattoos. One on my shoulder and one on my lower back. My daughter is only 9 months so she doesn't think much of them. But I am also a child who's parent has tattoos. My dad has 5 and they are on his arms. His theory is what's the point of having them if you can't see them. I think it's cool. My daughter just touches them because she likes the colors.
