why does it seem that people enjoy watching characters learn stuff in movies?

like in the count of mote cristo or the princess diaries where the main character learns stuff, you know? those parts always seem to attract peoples attention...

as in a montage and stuff. with the music ...you know.

You mean, like, the montages and stuff? Yeah, I guess people like seeing the characters fail and then overcome their failures.

Kinda like going through school yourself but very quickly...I'm sure a lot of people would like school to go by in a 3-minute montage!

Because without that learning process you wonder how it was that the person went from A fool to a prince in so short a period of time. It seems incredible without those scenes. So they add in the learning process to show people much time has past and this is what you can expect. Then they go one step further to surprise you even more.

well...what else would we watch?? movies need to be about something.....might as well be about the characters learning. and that makes sense because we all go through life day to day learning from our failures and learning in general..its a part of life.

Because when they learn something they put it into practice and it affects their life...it makes a real change. In real life, you have to be beat over the head to learn something (it's not so neatly presented) and in reality even when you learn your lesson you probably still end up doing the same old mistakes.

How good would a movie be if the character already knows everything?

"You're the princess of England!"
"Yeah, I know..."

"Harry, Voldemort..."
"Killed my parents, only one can survive, I know! Geez!"
