tell you about false prophets, and what does it say. Is it true they are allowed to make mistakes in their prophesy, and the message can still be from God.

Any prophet that misses a single prophecy is a false prophet. God's prophets bat a thousand.

Deu 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that [is] the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

False prophets: The characteristics of false prophets are:
1- They are greedy for gain.
2- They prophesy lies.
3- They speak even when God has not sent them.
4- They steal words from one another.
5- They distort the words of the living God.
6- They give people a false sense of peace.
7- They dress the wound of God's people instead of healing them.
8- They do not expose peoples sin - which was often why God sent His prophets so that His people would repent.
9- They dishearten the hearts of the righteous.
10- They come in sheep's clothing.
11- Their fruit will help you recognise them.
12- They distort the truth and draw away disciples after them.
13- They turn God's grace into a licence for immorality.
14- They corrupt the teachings about Jesus Christ.

So if you meet anyone who says their God's prophetic voice who has these characteristics - the truth is not in them. Stay well clear.
God allows these people to operate as the bible tells us - but the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth.
His sheep hear His voice. Hope this helps...

If they make mistakes or are false in their statements they are false prophest and not of God. God cannot be false, untrue, etc. Ithink the following information will help.

Good Luck

The work of a Hebrew prophet was to act as God’s messenger and make known God’s will. The message was usually prefaced with the words “Thus saith Jehovah.” He taught men about God’s character, showing the full meaning of his dealings with Israel in the past. It was therefore part of the prophetic office to preserve and edit the records of the nation’s history; and such historical books as Joshua, Judges, 1 and 2 Sam., 1 and 2 Kings were known by the Jews as the former Prophets. It was also the prophet’s duty to denounce sin and foretell its punishment, and to redress, so far as he could, both public and private wrongs. He was to be, above all, a preacher of righteousness. When the people had fallen away from a true faith in Jehovah, the prophets had to try to restore that faith and remove false views about the character of God and the nature of the Divine requirement. In certain cases prophets predicted future events, e.g., there are the very important prophecies announcing the coming of Messiah’s kingdom; but as a rule prophet was a forthteller rather than a foreteller. In a general sense a prophet is anyone who has a testimony of Jesus Christ by the Holy Ghost, as in Num. 11: 25-29; Rev. 19: 10.

Deut. 13: 3 thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet.

Jer. 5: 31 (Jer. 14: 14) prophets prophesy falsely.
Jer. 23: 11 both prophet and priest are profane.
Jer. 23: 16 (Ezek. 13: 2) prophets that . . . speak a vision of their own heart.
Jer. 23: 32 (Zech. 10: 2) against them that prophesy false dreams.
Jer. 27: 15 prophesy a lie in my name.
Jer. 28: 15 Hananiah the prophet . . . the Lord hath not sent thee.
Jer. 29: 9 they prophesy falsely unto you in my name.
Lam. 2: 14 thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things.
Ezek. 22: 25 conspiracy of her prophets.
Hosea 4: 5 prophet also shall fall with thee in the night.
Micah 3: 5 prophets that make my people err.
Micah 3: 11 prophets thereof divine for money.
Matt. 7: 15 (3 Ne. 14: 15) beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing.
Matt. 24: 11 (JS-M 1: 9) many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matt. 24: 24 (Mark 13: 22; JS-M 1: 22) there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets.
2 Cor. 11: 13 such are false apostles, deceitful workers.
Titus 1: 16 They profess that they know God, but in works they deny him.
2 Pet. 2: 1 false prophets also among the people.
1 Jn. 4: 1 many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Matthew 7:15-16 There will be and are false prophets in the world today. They twist and turn God's Word into what they want or others want to hear. All the messages from God are in the Bible. It is and always will be His final word and truth.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22
"But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have no commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die. You may say in your hear, 'How will we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?' When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him."

The books of Ezekiel, Jeremiah, 2 Peter and Jude all deal with false teachers and false prophets.
God takes people who say they are speaking for Him, and speak incorrect things more seriously than anything else. In 2 Peter God says that the blackest darkest part of hell is awaiting these men and women.

Hope this helps :)

'there's some stuff in Revelation (DUH) and also some stuff in Leviticus. I think it's at the end of chapter 16 or 18 in Lev. somemwhere in there. I you've gone past 25 you've gone too far for sure.

It does say that to some extent. It says (In Leviticus) that god can send a prophet, but if he makes a mistake in his prophecy, he will be killed (murdered is the better word though). So basically, it says that if you look at the teacinigs of a false prophet, some of it will be from God, and some will not. Most likely, you won't be able to differentiate the two.

The important thing to remember that just ONE false prophesy makes a false prophet. Doesn't matter how many he gets right!

That means Joseph Smith (the creator of Mormonism) is a false prophet.

God bless!

21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.

According to Jeremiah 23:16:

This is what the LORD Almighty says:
"Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you;
they fill you with false hopes.
They speak visions from their own minds,
not from the mouth of the LORD.

The Hebrew Bible (known popularly to Christians as the Old Testament and to the Jews as the Tanach) contains a few tests for testing the validity of a prophet. One of these tests is outlined in Deuteronomy 13:1-5 (according to the Christian division of the Hebrew Bible -- this format of chapter and verse numbers will be maintained throughout the rest of this article since it seems to be the most popular system):

"If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, 'Let us follow other gods' (gods you have not known) 'and let us worship them,' you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you" (Deuteronomy 13:1-5 NIV).
