it's square, I would imagine, because square boxes are easier to make/assemble? And the little white thing in the center is to keep the top from collapsing and making the cheese stick to the top of the box. I used to use them as tables for my dolls-or if they weren't complely round on top (they seem to have stopped making them that way) coathangers.

Because if it was in something round it wouldn't be called a box. A box has to have four sides. And the white thing is to keep the top of the box from sticking to the pizza as it sags from the heat.

Not all pizza boxes are square. I've gotten pizza in boxes that were octagonal.

pizzas (originally) where not round but square...
pizza in italy is usally a square not a circle.
There is this famous guy who used to say "Never trust a round pizza" i dont remmeber that persons name.
