...my mom? When my mom bends down to get something, or is reaching out to pet the other pets and she's in eyesight of my mom, she'll run over no matter what she's doing and bite/scratch her. My mom feeds her, and has never hurt her or any of the other animals!! This cat did use to be in an abusive home, but since she's been here no one has ever done anything to her, and i can easily make sudden movements around her, bend over around her... pretty much do anything and she won't attack me... the only time she's ever bitten me they were love bites.... and i'm not the one that feeds her or takes care of her, i just pet her lol one time my my mom was taking groceries out of the bag, and my cat latched onto her leg and bit her so badly that she started bleeding like crazy... why does she do this?? how can we stop her??

You can stop her by spraying her with water (squirt gun/water bottle) when she attacks. As for why she's doing it, maybe your mom reminds her of her previous owner. Or she's protecting you.

My sisters cat does the same thing! My mum is also the one that feeds her and sometimes when my mum is hanging out the clothes she will bite my mum on the leg and then run. She has also bitten my dad too when he was just outside. My sister has learnt by looking at the cats eyes to tell if she is in the "attacking mood". My sister's cat was not from an abusive home. She was given to my sister as a tiny kitten. You would think that the cat I adopted from the pound would have behaviour problems but she is a perfect cat. I have had her for nearly two years and she has never ever scratched me. She will actually rest her paw on the back of my hand and not take out her claws. There are actually proffessionals that can asses and correct your cats behaviour but I would assume that would be expensive. You could call the vet and ask someone there for their advise. They would have encountered cats with many problems. Also, maybe the cat is trying to tell your mum something. If she is the one that feeds her maybe she is saying she is hungry or she doesn't like the food. Or maybe she wants attention from your mum. I understand your mum would probably be afraid to pat this cat so maybe since she is the one that feeds the cat, the cat would like some attention from her. Maybe she doesn't attack you because you give her lots of attention. My sisters cat has also never attacked my sister, just my parents and my sister is the only one that pats her. Also is it "attacking" or "playing?" I have a stray cat here that is very friendly but sometimes she likes to hide and then jump out at my leg. iI know she is playing but sometimes cats don't understand that they are just too rough.

Is your mom "Minnie Mouse", by any chance? ;)

Seriously, though, some pets just have it out for some members of the family. It might be something he or she wears, such as a loose garment that's just begging to be swatted at, or perfume that antagonizes the animal. Maybe your pet is jealous of your mom.

Does she have any toys or catnip that can take her mind off your mom? If not, get some. If that doesn't work, then the simplest training method is to gently and loosely hold the cat about 5 feet from mom, and see what it does. Make sure mom doesn't move during this time; she shouldn't even look at the cat. If the cat "attacks", then pull her back and gently but firmly admonish her by saying "no". Do not strike the animal; it may mistake that as meaning that mom is strictly off-limits! Repeat the hold and scold a few times. Then, have mom move a little closer, and repeat it. Do this a few times, and eventually, the cat may get the idea that it's okay to be near mom, but not to attack her. Or not! ;)

P.S. What's the dealio with your putting "my mom" in the detail part of your question instead of in the question itself? Did you think that would get more responses? On the contrary! You probably eliminated quite a few good answers, due to your "deceit"; nobody likes to be "used". As for me, I like helping where I can, but I won't do so for you, if you do that, again. You have 100 characters for the question, so that's not your excuse. Think about it for next time, okay? :)

If you played pretend attack games or play-fought with the little guy when he is a kitten that could be why. My sis and I both got a kitten at the same time. She played roughly (safely) with hers and I would gently scold mine when he bit me. The result is my cat doesn't bite and hers thinks she's Freddy Krueger. Also, cats may do this for attention. As my cat Galway (another cat) grew old, she would have little "freak outs" where she'd be really sweet and then snap and slap my face or bite my nose- the vet said it was a behavioral thing that cats sometimes develop- they have "senile" moments where they revert back to jungle-kitty and then quickly snap out of it. Good luck. I recommend gently tapping the cat on the nose and saying no in a firm voice. One more thing- I noticed you mentioned staring into your cats eyes- they can view this as a challenge of sorts if you keep eye contact for very long. I've had cats that would politely avert there eyes in a show of submission and I've had a couple that would leap at me while seeming to quote Robert Deniro from Taxi Driver- "You lookin' at me?"
