Check for circulation of your coolant, check the thermostat, check the water pump, check the fan clutch and for a loose belt.

If the thermostat was not opening the engine would be extremely hot as no coolant would be circulating. I would suspect a defective temp sensor which should be located in the engine near the thermostat housing. When engine is cold remove the radiator cap and idle the engine till it comes to operating temp and the thermostat should open. Stay away from radiator fill spout as when thermostat opens it may ezpel a bit of coolant. After thermo. opens you can look in the radiator spout and you can see the coolant circulating. The coolant comes from the bottom of radiator to the top and down the top hose to the engine through the thermostat. You have to look close to see the movement. If you see this circulation you will know your thermo. is working.

Thermostat is easy just 3 10 mm bolts and slip in a new Nissan Thermostat. Go to the dealer and buy the correct one. If you do not think I'm right just compare what you get at AUTO-X and the real Nissan Part. Nissan T-Stat has two functions to close off the heater hose for quick warm up and full open for motor cooling.

well if it's not really that hot it could be a bad sensor for your temp gauge but i'd check ur water pump most cases the water pump is shot. with the motor cold take off ur radiator cap and start it up and watch the water and see if it ciculates if it don't you need a new water pump.i'd change out the themalstate too.

Pull the thermostat
Take it into your kitchen
drop it in a pot of water and start boiling it on the stove
when the water get to a boil and the thermo hasn't popped, you need a new one (and a new gasket 'cause you'll probably trash the old one in the process)
