week, I took him to the vet and the vet gave him his first set of vaccines. Ok, now he is 8 weeks old. On Wednesday, I took him back to the vet and they accidentally gave him the same vaccine again! When I got home, about an hour after, he started vomiting. He is so weak and only weighs 0.5 pounds. I don't know what to do. Do I just wait it out or should I take him to the Animal ER? Techs, have you ever seen a kitten accidentally be given an adult dosage of a vaccine? What should I do? Please don't tell me to sue the doctor, that is besides the point. I want my kitten to get better first. Should I just wait it out and he will get better on his own or should I take him to the Vet ER asap? PLEASE HELP!!!

Kittens and adult cats are given the same amount of vaccine, what is happening is your kitten is having an allergic reaction to the vaccine which means its body is realising that their is a foreign disease and its trying to fight it (which is good - means has great immune response) however its bad as in its making the kitten weak and feel terrible. Take to after hours and get an antihistamine injection and an antiinflammatory injection.

You will need to get your kitten an antihistamine injection before each and every vaccination for the rest of its life so that it doesn't feel so sore and tired.

As I said its a good thing means the body has accepted the vaccine and is working well, but unfortunatley the down side it will make your kitten flat.

I would get it to an after hours just incase!!

Good luck

as for the dosage - there is no adult or kitten vaccine, it's the same, regardless of age. so that's not the problem, nor is it usually a health risk to get the vaccines so close together. it doesn't do any good to have them that close, but it doesn't usually harm to do it either.

if he's vomiting after the vaccine, i'd bring him to the vet - he may be having a reaction to it, in which case he may have reactions in the future with vaccines too - it's not usually a one-time issue. they'll probably give him benedryl or another antihistimine to counter the reaction.

ER for sure! And sue your damn vet for doing such a stupid things. I am not kidding; lay into them. Then obviously find a better vet somewhere else.

Please take your baby in. It needs the attention. It's so small already. It should be a few lbs at least.

I would first call the vet and ask, then take him to the ER if there's any question about what can be done. Waiting may be the worst you can do.

take him to an er vet and have them check it out. i work at a vet but still fairly new and i know they give boosters of the same shot a couple of times but its very likly that your cat is just having an allergic reaction which i have seen alot of they will tell you if its is allergic that they cant give the shots anymore but that isnt necessarily true in all cases they can just premedicated them with some benadryl to counter act the reaction
