IF she likes Hanna Montana then buy her something different about her or at least one item the same it doesn't matter her sister has it. There are also HIGH SCHOOL musical stuff, MP3 will be fine too, or a DS game.. Ask her to tell you 3 or 5 things that she will like for her B-day and you will decide what you can aford that way she will be happy with a present that she will love.. This is what I do for Christmas & B-day's I ask for 3 , 4 or 5 things and if i can afford it i will buy it.. Best Wishes!!

my sister is 8 and her birthday was sunday.
you generally cant go wrong with hannah montana, high school musical, etc.
and if you're worried about getting the same things.. there are A LOT of hannah montana things out there.
also.
they usually like crafty projects that they will be able to do on their own so they can be independent.
webkinz are also popular these days.
good luck

A Barbie Jeep. It actually runs on a car battery. It's big enough for an 8 year old to get in and ride it around. About the same price as an expensive MP3 player.

If she like to read, some American Girl book may interest her. My friends daughters really love them.
I know books are kind of lame, but lets face it, reading is such an important skill, if it encourages an interest, it could really change her life for the better.
You can't go wrong with an ipod shuffle, but if her sister doesn't have one, she may "borrow" it from her. :)

Because she does not sound like she likes Barbie, maybe a computer game. You say she likes music, so maybe she would like music classes. There might also possibly be a concert of some type that she might like that could be affordable. If none of thse sound like her, maybe a trip to the movies and her favorite restaurant would be enough.
What about a computer?

Eight is the age at which my daughter really started to transition from baby dolls to big-girl dolls like Barbie. She also loves to get gift certificated and do her own shopping.

How about a digital camera. They all love taking pictures at this age and it will make her feel better about not getting what she wants.

Anything with High School Musical. They have a new High School Musical Twister game out. I am getting it for my 10 year-old niece for Christmas.

8 years old and a mp3 player??? wow, I wanted a go-cart myself at that age :D they go faster than barbie jeeps and etc and once they get older they can sell them if they want while barbie jeep will just die or something. If shes really girly, my sisters like princess stuff, like the bed canopy and etc. Do they have hannah montanta seasons? does she like to read, harry potter book set? does she like horses, horse riding lessons? alot of girls like horses :)
