The outage was only in half of my apartment, the kitchen and the living room. I checked the circuit breaker right away and nothing there was tripped. I was home when it happened, and the tv was off but I heard a humming noise coming from my tv, so I unplugged it. (from a surge protecter) When the lights came back on I plugged my tv back in and there is only black and white static and a 1 inch strip of black along the two sidewalls of the screen. Even when the you push the menu button the once lime green options are now gray. What do you think happened, and how can I prevent it from happening again.

The DVD player works with it, but does not show any color at all, and is all static. The menu options are all gray, sometimes the channel will be colored correctly, but that is the only color that works on the TV.

You may have just lost the channels.
can you see the TV menu?
can you play video from a VCR or DVD?
If yes, use the menu to do a new channel scan.

Hi Jill, is you tv connected to any other power source like a vcr or dvd player ? If so, you need to "set up" all over again...even on yout tv if it is not connected. You might need to use the set up button like it was new. If it is connected, you may need the tv to be on channel 3. Hope this helps and you understand. :D

You had a power surge. That TV is fried now.
